Anchor Lines MARCO ISLAND YACHT CLUB

The Marco Island Yacht Club was donned with mistletoe and holly Christmas lights twinkle bright and laughter and music were heard night after night The Yacht Clubs Christmas Gala held on Friday December 9 was not to be missed as all showed up to give Santa a big kiss Santa arrived to spread Christmas cheer to all Yacht Club members both far and near Santas elves danced around and helped Santa to be found Then after Christmas carols were sung the dinner bell was rung A holiday menu of beef fish chicken and special Christmas cook-ies and cakes were served Dancing around the Christmas tree continued throughout the night until Santa got on his sleigh and bid all a farewell and goodnight (See more photos on the next page)

The Dock Party was a great success It was an evening of such splendorfabulous yachts charming hosts great food and a beautiful evening The evening began with boat tours and yummy appetizers provided by the Captains and First Mates of 10 boats (all glow-ing with Christmas Cheer) Attendees visited the boats and received a card from the poker deck attempting to get the best hand Thanks for the terrific support from MIMA including Nancy who helped coordinate and decorated the party room as well as Elmer and Jim who berthed the partici-pants The boats were grouped together on C dock which made it very convenient for attendees Alex and Nicki Stanco greeted everyone with a directory of boats C 43 Frank and Jan Rinker Barefoot Contessa C 47 Ray Yerich Hummingbird C 45 Brooks and Lisa Wood Regal Wave C 59 Jim and Mary Carleen Ferry Current Obsession C 58 Peter and Peggy Frazier Grand Pelican C 46 Roland and Coleen Bowler Truly C C 49 Jim and Nancy Bullock Nancy J C T-Head Dean and Sheri Heard No Problems C T- Head Roy and Kathy Hershberger Tigress Special thanks to all of the boat owners who

scrubbed and polished their yachts to present them that evening and of course the First Mates who provid-ed the great nibbles While some MIYC members could not attend due to a conflict with the Island Gala well over 50 members joined us for the event and provided calories galore During the Taste and Tour Love Boat Desserts in the MIMA office prizes were awarded Lee Harkness Co Chair of the Boat Decor Judges awarded the Awe-some Lights Award to the Ferrys Current Obsession Jim Ferry Co Chair of the Creative Decor Award an-nounced the award would be presented to the Heardsrsquo No Problems and the Hershbergers Tigress who pre-sented Santa and his sleigh (on No Problems) with the reindeer flying over Tigress Those who walked down the dock were blown away by the view it presented and it was suggested that the boats would have to stay for the season on the t-head It was an amazing engineer-ing feat The final events were comments by Roger McGinn MIMA President and Commodore Rinker and the awarding of the Poker Run prizes to Alex Stanco Carol Rice and Nancy Trube Special thanks to Judy McGinn Kathy Hershberger and Kathy Sullivan were Peggy Fraziers right hand literally and figuratively See you on the docks and keep the first Sunday in Decem-ber free for Dock Party 12

Marco Island Yacht Club really knows how to throw a par-ty And on New Yearrsquos Eve they were at their best After enjoying passed Hors DOeuvres around the Burgee Bar the partiers went up to the dining room for continued festivities A lovely salad with Brie cheese started the meal Dinner either included bronzed Diver Scallops or a Strip Steak with Lobster Tail Rice or potatoes and baby vegetables finished

off the course Flan with Berries and a caramel sauce was a deliciously light way to end the meal Musician Kevin played lots of good music yet the revel-ers could still hear each other speak A Big Thank You to Alain Prion and Nick Clemente and the whole wonderful MIYC Staff for planning a memorable evening to Ring in 2012

sents both a blessing and a sigh of relief as I prepare to wander

off into the sunset literally as Jan and I live on the beautiful

beach at Marco Island Serving as both your Chairman and

Commodore for the year 2011 was a great experience one that

I greatly appreciate and give thanks to those of you at MIYC

who made it possible

I am pleased to report that our club continues being respon-

sive to our members and that we enjoy a continued spirit of ca-

maraderie especially on our Friday nights ldquoHappy Hourrdquo We

are looking forward to the New Years Eve Party as I prepare

this article for the January issue of Anchor lines

As I look back into year 2011 I believe that the most important

word in our MIYC vocabulary is ldquoparticipationrdquo Someone men-

tioned this word at our annual meeting back in November and it

has stuck with me Participation is the key to success in any

endeavor especially in a private club such as ours Participa-

tion has several facets both in the enjoyment of the various

club activities and in becoming a partner in one or more of the

various opportunities to serve on a committee or as a director

We enjoyed many well planned activities in year 2011 including

the Mardi Gras Party the Dog Days of Summer and the Octo-

ber-Fest Celebration to name a few For these essential club

activities to continue and be successful a lot of planning and

promotion is necessary

Perhaps the second most important word therefore is

ldquoplanningrdquo as we look forward to the New Year 2012 The re-

sponsibility for planning will flow from the new Chairman and

the 2012 Board of Directors efforts

The planning will of course include

both the club activities and the busi-

ness of completing another year

with the books in the black Equally

important are the various commit-

tees and committee heads that

serve to glue the various parts to-

gether Of added importance for

year 2012 is our having the oppor-

tunity to host the FCYC Meeting in

May

As our membership is down of

vital importance for the year 2012 going forward is the need for

ldquopromotionrdquo both internally and externally Simply put we need

to increase our membership and that requires promotion both

on the part of our professional staff our membership committee

and each of us individually as we meet and greet our friends

and neighbors here on Marco Island and surrounds Our own

Linda Marr does a great job with Anchor lines and Laverne Da-

vy really does a great job with the local press We must add our

part as well

In closing I look forward to greeting and shaking hands with

the 2012 Chairperson who will be selected by the 2012 Board

of Directors in early January Sounds something like the Iowa

The MARCO ISLAND YACHT CLUB is pleased to announce a new level of membership A ldquoSingle Persons Membershiprdquo is now available to those single individuals who previously have been paying full dues and assessments The option is now offered to ldquosingle personsrdquo who would like the opportunity of sharing membership with another non-cohabiting person (effectively converting it into a ldquocouplerdquo membership) without a further increase in dues or assessments The spending minimum for the new ldquocouplerdquo membership would be increased to the same level as all other ldquocouplerdquo memberships once the second person is added

Happy New Year As we start out on 2012 it is time to reflect and be thankful for our past year and going into season looking forward to what great events are around the corner With our new season comes the changing of the watch with our new

Commodore taking over Congratulations to Commodore Stu-art Curtis as he now steers the MIYC Bridge into a new excit-ing season I would also like to express my thanks and grati-tude to our outgoing Commodore and Chairman of the Board Mr Frank Rinker with whom I have thoroughly enjoyed work-ing together with the past year Under his watch a lot of items were checked off the to-do-list notably the painting of the en-tire clubhouse as well as getting our new roll ups and outside furniture redone You will be missed Mr Chairman Please join us on January 21 for the traditional Change of Watch dinner and dancing and all around great time

By Laverne Davy The Marco Island Yacht Club had a sell out evening for the Christmas Boat Parade on Saturday December 10 2011 Moms Dads children grandparents and husbands and wives found it exciting to watch all the beautiful holiday decorated boats in the parade The Marco Island Yacht Club is in a stellar location for this event and all were wide-eyed to see each and every sailing vessel Santa and Mrs Claus were present throughout the evening

to bring Christmas cheer to kids from one to ninety-nine Laughter was heard amidst the jingling bells and the Ho Ho Ho of Santa A festive dinner of prime rib and salmon were topped off with special Christmas desserts The feeling of Christmas was in the air and all were happy that Santa and Mrs Claus were there Santa called for his sleigh reindeers and all and promised to be back with the wink of an eye

This article was posted in the Naples Daily News When Daniel Johns met Waylon it was love at first sight The romance started in June at Collier County Domestic Animal Services Johns 39 regularly visited Way-lon a year-old orange-striped tabby Right before the catrsquos 90-day stay ended Johns made it official He adopted Waylon But within an hour of arriving at his new home still in the carrier in Goodland the cat hid behind the dryer The next day Johns discovered a hole in the dryer vent Waylon was gone Johns received an early Christmas gift Waylon was found mdash more than 2000 miles away An embedded microchip enabled an animal shelter in Gold-en Colo to reconnect Johns and Waylon ldquoItrsquos awesomerdquo said Johns who is the executive chef at the Marco Island Yacht Club ldquoNow I know what happened or donrsquot know but therersquos an ending to the story and itrsquos not terribly sadrdquo It is not clear how Waylon made it to Colorado or for how long hersquos been there A ldquogood Samaritanrdquo found Waylon wan-dering a snowy neighborhood in Golden Colo a suburb of Denver The unnamed woman brought Waylon to the Foothills Animal Shelter one of the largest animal rescue shelters in the Denver area on Wednesday morning Jennifer Strickland director of community relations at the animal shelter said Waylon is in good condition and very friend-ly ldquoHe had a good weight and looked like he had been well cared-forrdquo Strickland said After he was brought into the shelter it is protocol to check for a microchip Johns said he luckily registered Waylonrsquos mi-crochip to his name address and phone number ldquoThatrsquos whatrsquos so great about a microchiprdquo Strickland said ldquoIf not for the mi-

This article was posted in the Naples Daily News When Daniel Johns met Waylon it was love at first sight The romance started in June at Collier County Domestic Animal Services Johns 39 regularly visited Way-lon a year-old orange-striped tabby Right before the catrsquos 90-day stay ended Johns made it official He adopted Waylon But within an hour of arriving at his new home still in the carrier in Goodland the cat hid behind the dryer The next day Johns discovered a hole in the dryer vent Waylon was gone Johns received an early Christmas gift Waylon was found mdash more than 2000 miles away An embedded microchip enabled an animal shelter in Gold-en Colo to reconnect Johns and Waylon ldquoItrsquos awesomerdquo said Johns who is the executive chef at the Marco Island Yacht Club ldquoNow I know what happened or donrsquot know but therersquos an ending to the story and itrsquos not terribly sadrdquo It is not clear how Waylon made it to Colorado or for how long hersquos been there A ldquogood Samaritanrdquo found Waylon wan-dering a snowy neighborhood in Golden Colo a suburb of Denver The unnamed woman brought Waylon to the Foothills Animal Shelter one of the largest animal rescue shelters in the Denver area on Wednesday morning Jennifer Strickland director of community relations at the animal shelter said Waylon is in good condition and very friend-ly ldquoHe had a good weight and looked like he had been well cared-forrdquo Strickland said After he was brought into the shelter it is protocol to check for a microchip Johns said he luckily registered Waylonrsquos mi-crochip to his name address and phone number ldquoThatrsquos whatrsquos so great about a microchiprdquo Strickland said ldquoIf not for the mi-
