“…Safety is of the LORD (Proverbs 21:31). Surely and absolutely, the LORD keeps us, His people, in His grace, mercy, and compassion in the midst of global battle against the COVID 19 (coronavirus disease 2019). We, as believers of Christ should be reminded that our God is in control over all things. The whole world is upheld by His power and He works out everything through the counsel of His will. Our God is sovereign over all illnesses and diseases. Thus, no matter how this health crisis unfolds, whether it infects thousands or hundreds of thousands, whether the spread is contained within a few weeks or few months, what we can be certain of is God’s sovereignty over all things, which means that we can genuinely cast all our cares and anxieties upon Him, for He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7)

By all means, we should take necessary precautions; but let us not be anxious. We must not respond in fear but we must respond in faith. This is a time for us to rise up in prayer. Our prayerfulness is a manifestation of our humble dependence on God’s grace and mercy. We must pray for our nation, for our city, for neighboring towns and provinces, for government officials, for healthcare personnel, and even for those in other countrieswho are severely afflicted by this coronavirus. Altogether, we ought to put into practice the truth of 2Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

In this troubled time, we should anchor our hearts in the light of God’s Word. May each of us respond in love and faith, resting in the blessed assurance of His faithfulness and love. Let us bear in mind what 2 Thessalonians declares, “But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.”

“God is in control over all things. Our God is sovereign over all illnesses and diseases.” Such was the truth prevailing over our Pastor’s letter for the members on March 14, 2020 in response to the imposition of the Government to put Metro Manila in total lockdown or in community quarantine effective March 15, 2020. With our trust in God Who reigns supreme above the global crisis brought by the COVID19 or the coronavirus disease, we, believers of Christ are ensured of safety.

With the precautions of wearing masks and practicing good hygiene, the faithful members not affected with the lockdown attended the worship services on March 15, 2020. They were exhorted with God’s Word by Missionary Peter Mordh for the first worship service, and by Preacher Emmanuel Villarosa for the second worship service. In the afternoon, the congregation was encouraged to “Be Right with God” through the preaching of Dr. Ed Laurena, based on Jeremiah 13:8-10. The Lord blessed the

well-attended services, likewise those 1,300 viewers who joined through live stream.

Then on March 16, 2020, the whole Luzon was placed in an “Enhanced Community Quarantine” directly affecting our city. With compliance to government order, our church, through our Pastor, has responded with trust in the Lord. Meanwhile, believing that God’s purpose is best, many faithful members supported the March 18, 2020 Wednesday prayer meeting as evidenced by the 833 number of views, and the numerous screen shots sent.

In the prayer meeting, our Pastor charged every Christian to claim “God’s Cure from Troubles” while staying close to the Lord, and delighting in His presence, protection, power, provisions, and peace, according to John 14. Indeed, the work of the Lord is protected by God as He shields His children who trust Him, testifying with earnestness that “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1).
