Designed for students 9th grade or older (entering Fall 2018) who wish to develop and improve their knowledge of the vocal jazz
genre. Students will sing as part of a vocal jazz ensemble and as a soloist, learning about style, technique and interpretation.
Students will also participate in daily improvisation workshops and guided listening sessions to provide a well-rounded understanding
of the genre.
Note: Students will prepare the ILMEA Vocal Jazz audition pieces and improvise over the Blues form. No audition required.

Midwest Young Artists Conservatory is thrilled to introduce the first Vocal Jazz Workshop, designed for students 9th grade or older (entering Fall 2017) who wish to develop and improve their knowledge of the vocal jazz genre. Students will sing as part of a vocal jazz ensemble and as a soloist, learning about style, technique and interpretation. Faculty
Alyssa Allgood has been described as an artist who “impressively sings, scats and writes original lyrics” (DownBeat Magazine). Her debut album, "Out of the Blue", was on the "Best Of 2016" lists in eight different publications, including The Huffington Post and All About Jazz, and was named a "Best Debut Release of 2016" by The New York City Jazz Record. Performance highlights include the 2016 Chicago Jazz Festival, The Green Mill and The Jazz Showcase. Alyssa currently works at MYA Conservatory as the Jazz and Choral Programs Coordinator, theory instructor, private lesson teacher and substitute ensemble director.

WORK WITH ALYSSA ALLGOODAlyssa Allgood has been described as an artist who “impressively sings, scats and writes original lyrics” (DownBeat Magazine). She recently won the first Ella Fitzgerald Jazz Voice Competition held in Washington D.C. She was also named a 2016 Jazz Fellow through the Luminarts Cultural Foundation in Chicago and a Top 15 Finalist in the 2016 and 2017 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition. Her debut album, “Out of the Blue”, was named a “Best Release of 2016” by eight different publications, including The Huffington Post, All About Jazz and The New York City Jazz Record.
Alyssa currently works at MYA Conservatory as the Jazz and Choral Programs Coordinator, Mini & Mighty Maestros Choral Director and theory instructor. She also directs the top vocal jazz ensemble at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville.
