- Hebrews 10:19, 22-23

This morning’s sermon:

“Are You Ready?”Matthew 25:1-13 Pastor Bill Evans

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus... let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience... let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

Call to Worship Hebrews 9:28

So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Leader: For the Lord himself will descend from heaven People: with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. Leader: And the dead in Christ will rise first.

People: Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air,

Leader: and so we will always be with the Lord. People: Therefore encourage one another with these words. Leader: This is the Word of the Lord People: Thanks Be To God

Enjoying God’s Fellowship

Sermon “Are You Ready?” Pastor Bill Evans Sermon text: Matthew 25:1-13

1 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps[a] and went to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. 5 As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. 6 But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ 7 Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ 10 And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. 11 Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ 12 But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour. OffertoryI Will Rise

There’s a peace I’ve come to know,Though my heart and flesh may fail. There’s an anchor for my soulI can say, “It is well.”

ChorusJesus has overcome, and the grave is overwhelmed; The victory is won,He is risen from the dead. And I will rise when He calls my name;No more sorrow; no more pain.I will rise on eagle’s wings; Before my God fall on my knees, and rise.I will rise.

There’s a day that’s drawing nearWhen this darkness breaks to light,And the shadows disappear,And my faith shall be my eyes.

BridgeAnd I hear the voice of many angels sing,“Worthy is the Lamb!”And I hear the cry of ev’ry longing heart,“Worthy is the Lamb!”

Words and Music by Louie Giglio, Chris Tomlin, Matt Maher, and Jesse Reeves

Gathering SongHow Firm a Foundation

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word! What more can He say than to you He hath said,To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

“Fear not I am with thee; O be not dismayed,For I am thy God and will still give thee aid;I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.”

“When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply:The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design:Thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine.”

“The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for reposeI will not, I will not desert to its foes; That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,I’ll never, no never, no never forsake!”

From John Rippon’s Selection of Hymns, 1787. Trad. American melody; Caldwell’s Union Harmony, 1837.

Song of ResponseHow Deep

You were broken that I might be healed. You were cast off that I might draw near. You were thirsty that I might come drink,Cried out in anguish that I might sing:

How deep is Your love, How high and how wide is Your mercy. How deep is Your grace Our hearts overflow with praise to You.

You knew darkness that I might know light,Wept great tears that mine might be dried.Stripped of glory that I might be clothed,Crushed by Your Father to call me Your own.

How deep is Your love, How high and how wide is Your mercy. How deep is Your grace Our hearts overflow with praise to You.

Hymn of SurrenderO Love that Will Not Let Me Go

O Love that will not let me go, I rest my weary soul in thee; I give thee back the life I owe, That in thine ocean depths its flow May richer, fuller be.

O Light that follows all my way, I yield my flick’ring torch to thee; My heart restores its borrowed ray, That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day May brighter, fairer be.

O Joy that seekest me through pain, I cannot close my heart to thee; I trace the rainbow through the rain, And feel the promise is not vain, That morn shall tearless be.

O Cross that liftest up my head, I dare not ask to fly from thee; I lay in dust life’s glory dead, And from the ground there blossoms red Life that shall endless be.

Sending SongO the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus

O the deep, deep love of Jesus, vast, unmeasured, boundless, free! Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me! Underneath me, all around me, is the current of Thy love Leading onward, leading homeward to Thy glorious rest above!

O the deep, deep love of Jesus, spread His praise from shore to shore! How He loveth, ever loveth, changeth never, nevermore! How He watches o’er His loved ones, died to call them all His own; How for them He intercedeth, watcheth o’er them from the throne!

O the deep, deep love of Jesus, love of every love the best! ’Tis an ocean full of blessing, ’tis a haven giving rest! O the deep, deep love of Jesus, ’tis a heaven of heavens to me; And it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to Thee!
