The objectives of the Namibian Institute of Mining and Technology are to equip namibian trainees with the ne- cessary practical and technical skills needed to take up positions within the Mining and Building & Civil Indus- tries as Artisans and Supervisors. Full-time trainees: For the Building and Civil Field of Study candidates must have completed the grade 12 certificate or equivalent qualification successfully, with at least 8 points in the 5 best subjects, of which, for Brick- laying & Plastering, Carpentry & Joinery and Plum- bing & Sheetmetal work, at least 2 credits in Mathe- matics, Science and English (at first or second lan- guage) respectively and for Clothing Production at least 2 credits in English (at first or second language). Preference will be given to students with higher grades. Must be declared healthy and fit by a medical practi- tioner. Application forms are available in the national newspa- pers prior to the application dates. They have to be com- pleted and sent to the NIMT. Students will be informed if they had been successful. Applications are subject to a selection process. The Institute offers a variety of L1-L3 courses in engi- neering studies that run on a semester basis, commencing in March or September. The four-year course, a compe- tency based modular training system in accordance with the prescriptions and recommendations of the industry, within the following framework. 1. NIMT CAMPUSES APPLICATIONS FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

MINIMUM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Trainee has to undergo an evaluation test with the

NIMT to establish trainability/recognition of prior learning.

Trainee must be English literate. Minimum of three years uninterrupted job experi-

ence. (Copy of “Service Record” is a prerequisite and therefore must be handed to the Registrar when the trainee registers for the evaluation test).

Minimum Grade 6 with a pass in Mathematics, Physical Science and English, which is our official language.

Must be employed to enable the trainee to com-plete/practice the prescribed tasks before entering for the next Level.

Prospective trainees are able to make use of study loans from the government. On admission applica-tions will be done via NIMT. Due to a limited number of places available, trainees are advised to contact UNAM to enquire on compa-nies that currently offer bursary assistance.

D. SKILLS UPGRADING Skills upgrading courses are provided for the upgrading of existing skills for long-term employees. Candidates are to be registered by the employer and proof of at least 3 years of relevant, uninterrupted workplace trade experience must be submitted upon registration. The service document must be compiled and signed by the employer, who will be responsible for payment of all costs.

Daily training hours 07:45 - 16:15 from Monday to Fri-day.

Trade Test preparation can only be taken by trainees who had been fully trained by the NIMT, after all train-ing levels have been completed and passed.

Level 1 = 6 weeks Level 2 = 7 weeks Level 3 = 9 weeks Trade Test Preparation = 8 weeks

This is a 6 months vocational modular training route, which starts at the beginning of a semester and will end at the end of the semester. No theoretical tuition is attached to this training possi-bility.
