Viniyoga & The Alexander Technique Bring more ease into your asana practice and into your life 3 special classes with Maggie Kessell and Lauren Hill. Mondays, May 6, 13 and 20 7:15-8:45 p.m. The Yoga Sutra tells us that the posture should embody stability and ease. In our fast-paced life styles, we have almost forgotten how to move with ease. In these three classes, Lauren Hill will instruct us in experiencing ease in a basic viniyoga sequence. Lauren will present three concepts from the Alexander Technique, incorporating them into familiar yoga poses. There will be time for questions and discussion, including how to carry that ease off the mat into our daily life. Maggie Kessell is registered with Yoga Alliance at the E-500 level, and is certified through the American Viniyoga Institute. Maggie has been teaching since 1996, has trained teachers at the 200 hr. level, and leads retreats and workshops in addition to teaching classes at River Garden Yoga Center. Lauren Hill is an AmSAT certified teacher of the Alexander Technique. A search for help with her own chronic pain problems brought her to the Technique in 1995. The improvement she experienced in her own health and overall well being inspired her to become a teacher. Lauren trained at the Alexander Technique Center Urbana, a three-year 1600 hour training program, in Urbana, Illinois. Lauren has taught in St. Paul, MN since 2003. RiverGarden Yoga Center www.rivergardenyoga.com 455 West 7th Street St. Paul, MN, 55102 651-270-6643 Students will get the most benefit from attending all three classes but are invited to attend one or two if they can’t come for all three. Call Maggie at 651-292-1166 or e-mail to [email protected]. Students from other traditions welcome. Pre-registration is required. Limited to 16 students. Drop-in (pre-registered) fee is $15/class. These classes are part of a regular Level 2 yoga class, but we are inviting other students to join us. If you have a pass for Maggie’s class, you can use that. Lauren teaches a wide variety of people how to examine and let go of restrictive habits that hold them back from experiencing the joy of easeful movement. Applying some simple concepts from the Alexander Technique to our yoga practice can help enhance our experience, avoiding overwork as we balance effort with ease. I studied with Lauren for over a year, and knowing how the Technique informs my own practice, I want to share this with my students. Please join us for one or more classes. Maggie Kessell, E-RYT
