Vikuiti Image Directing Film (IDF) II Application Guidelines Description Vikuiti Image Directing Film (IDF) II is a polymer optical film whereby an acrylic prismatic structure is overlaid on a polyester substrate. The prismatic structure is designed so that any light passing through it will be offset, or redirected, approximately 20 degrees. The direction of the offset is determined by the orientation of the film. Vikuiti IDF film can be incorporated inside the display, where it would be positioned between the LCD panel and the backlight. It may also be used outside the display, where it would be attached to the front polarizer. Vikuiti IDF film can be used with practically any LCD display, and may be combined with other Vikuiti Brightness Enhancement Films. It is available in 11x 11sheets with removable protective liners on both sides. None of the illustrations below are drawn to scale. 3 Innovation Removable Colored Protective Liner Vikuiti IDF Film Removable Clear Protective Liner Basic Construction Prism Orientation and Offset Direction The prism orienation and offset direction can be determined by holding the film with its notch in the upper right-hand corner. In this orientation, the prismatic structure and the clear protective liner will be facing up, the prism direction will be vertical, and the offset direction will be approximately 20 degrees to the left. The offset direction can be confirmed by holding a pen or pencil behind the film and viewing part of its image through the film. The part of the image viewed through the film will be shifted to the left, as shown in the illustration below. Please Note: Vikuiti IDF film is always mounted, whether inside the display or above it, with its prisms facing back towards the light guide. From the viewer’s perspective, whether the image is shifted right or left or up or down, is determined by how it is oriented, but the prisms must always face back towards the light guide. General Convert ing, Assembly, and Handl ing Recommendat ionsDuring converting operations, both the front and rear protective liners should remain on the film.Die cutting is the recommended form of converting and will result in the cleanest edges, although shear cutting andlaser cutting may also be acceptable. Whatever method used, you should ensure that the part has clean, crispedges without any raggedness or other damage. The part should be precisely cut to provide a close fit in the cavity, yet not so close as to experience binding orwarping problems from thermal expansion. The part should be left free-floating in the cavity to avoid warping or buckling. If necessary, the part may be tackeddown along one edge or two adjacent corners with a double-coated tape, such as Scotch® Tape # 415. Designsincorporating mounting tabs or holes mated to mounting pins are also popular.Remove both protective liners by tacking near an edge or corner with a piece of aggressive tape and pull gently. If two sheets of the Vikuiti™ BEF Film family are also to be incorporated, the second sheet of Vikuiti BEF film shouldbe converted with the grooves of its prism structure at a 90-degree angle to the groove’s direction of the first sheet.Be aware that handling any polymer film can generate electrostatic charges that can attract dust and debris.Remove any loose debris from the film by using compressed air.Avoid fingerprints and debris by wearing clean latex gloves and holding the product at the edges.Keep the area very clean to lessen the likelihood of debris contamination. Maintaining class 1000 clean roomconditions is recommended.Using anti-static measures, such as ionized air blowers whenever possible, is recommended. As always, protect the film, especially the edges, from any undue shock or stress.

StorageMaterial should be stored in its original packaging, laying in a horizontal orientation, away from direct sunlight.Heavy objects should not be piled on top of it to avoid damaging the product. Ambient temperature and humidityshould be controlled to 10–30 degrees C at 50 +/- 20% R.H.
