Integrated Math 3 Enhanced Syllabus Mrs. Turner (951)738-2100/Ext. 1351 [email protected] Eleanor Roosevelt High School Mission Statement: ERHS is committed to creating a dynamic, innovative learning environment that meets the needs of our diverse student body, guiding students toward excellence in college and career readiness, while challenging them to be responsible citizens. Course Description: Integrated Math 3 completes the three-course sequence of Integrated Mathematics and is designed to further explore the principles introduced in Math 1 and Math 2 in preparation for enrolling in advanced mathematics courses. Students will expand their knowledge of linear, exponential, and quadratic functions to polynomials, rational and trigonometric functions. Students will expand their knowledge of geometrics to include conics and trigonometry of all triangles to find solutions to multi-layered real-life situations. Students will see mathematics as a coherent, useful, and logical subject that draws on their ability to think critically as well as develop their ability to explore and solve mathematical problems while working cooperatively with other students and communicating their mathematical reasoning. Text: Integrated Math 3 will be using the Mathematics Vision Project (MVP) in correlation with the common core state standards. The full text is available and downloadable at http://www.mathematicsvisionproject.org/ under the link Secondary Mathematics III. Grading: Grades are a percentage calculation in Q. Check often in Q using StudentConnect to be aware of your grade. Tests/Performance Tasks 60% Quizzes 20% Final 10% Assignments 10% Homework: Homework should be a review of previously covered material or a continuation of that day’s topics. It is encouraged that you complete all of the assigned homework daily so that you have the necessary practice to be successful on the upcoming test or quiz. Incomplete homework will receive partial points and homework that is not submitted will result in a zero.

Eleanor Roosevelt High School Mission Statement: ERHS is committed to creating a dynamic, innovative learning environment that meets the needs of our diverse student body, guiding students toward excellence in college and career readiness, while challenging them to be responsible citizens.

Homework: Homework should be a review of previously covered material or a continuation of that day’s topics. It is encouraged that you complete all of the assigned homework daily so that you have the necessary practice to be successful on the upcoming test or quiz. Incomplete homework will receive partial points and homework that is not submitted will result in a zero.

Assessments: All assessments will be based on material that is covered in this class. Quizzes will be given at random points throughout a unit and tests/performance tasks will be given at the end of a unit. All unit tests are comprehensive, meaning they will test you on both previously learned and the new material from that unit. You are permitted only one attempt on each quiz and you are allowed test corrections on each unit test/performance task.

Test Corrections: Students are encouraged to complete test corrections on unit tests to increase their overall score (note: test corrections will NOT be offered for all tests and are NOT offered on finals). Test corrections are only completed in-class, before school, or during Academic Saturday School to preserve the integrity of the test.

Late Work Policy: Students should strive to complete each assignment by its due date. In the case that they are not able to, all assignments will be accepted up until the date of the unit test for partial points. Assignments that are turned in after the date of the unit test will receive a zero with no exceptions. Students should note that being absent the day of the unit test will not exclude them from the late work policy and they will not be given an extension to the following class period since the date of the unit test will have been posted at least a week in advance.

Absences/Make-up work: Students should make every effort to be in class on time. A lot of material is covered during each class and repeatedly missing that instruction could result in low exam scores and a low grade in the class. Homework will be on my website, so you always have access to the material even if you are absent! However, if you are absent the following applies

It is your responsibility to get your make-up assignments if you are absent. You have 2 days for each day absent to turn in your make-up work. If you are absent on a test or quiz day, you will take it immediately upon your return.

Grade Scale: The following is the grade break down for this class. Please note that any grade that falls below a 65% is a failing grade.

100-90% A89-80% B79-70% C69-65% DBelow 65% F

Required Materials: These items are to be brought to class every day. Paper Pencils only (NO PEN) and erasers SPIRAL notebook

Unit notes: Students will take notes daily in class in order to stay organized as well as be given the opportunity to look back and review previously learned material as they study for any unit test or final. Notes will be collected and graded at teacher discretion, meaning students should be prepared to turn them in any day for a grade. If you do you not have your notebook the day that they are randomly collected, you will receive a zero for that notebook check. If you are absent the day they are collected, yours will be graded the following class period.

Calculators: Calculators can be used on ALL tests, quizzes and homework. Students are encouraged to buy one of the following calculators for this class

Casio FX300ES Plus Standard Scientific Calculator TI-30XS MultiView Scientific Calculator TI-84 Plus (or any TI-84 model graphing calculator)

Tutoring: Tutoring is encouraged at all times, regardless of whether you are passing or failing. Tutoring is a way of studying with a teacher for an exam, reviewing forgotten material, catching up on absent material or learning material that you were not able to grasp in class. It is your responsibility to come in and get help when needed. My tutoring hours are 7:00 to 7:30 every morning expect on Wednesdays. Please bring your materials to tutoring; that may include your notes, homework, tests (for correction purposes) or previous exams in preparation for the final.

Classroom Rules: Students are expected to conduct themselves as adults at all times in Integrated Math 3. Being responsible and courteous is not an expectation but a given in my room. Failure to meet these goals will result in disciplinary action according to the CNUSD/ERHS policy.
