Victaulic mechanical pipe joining systems are known the world over for their ease of installation and reliable service.

The Victaulic Depend-O-Lok line of couplings is another example of creating faster, easier, and more economical pipe joints. Designed for installation on a wide range of pipe sizes, Victaulic Depend-O-Lok couplings provide a variety of repair and joining solutions. Victaulic Depend-O-Lok couplings join large diameter pipe using ten bolts and nuts versus the 52 bolts and nuts found on 144"/3650 mm sleeve-type couplings that require star tightening three times to complete the joint. Victaulic Depend-O-Lok couplings join many different types of pipe including carbon steel, stainless steel, ductile iron, HDPE, pre-stressed concrete and fiberglass.

Victaulic also offers two unique and cost-effective repair solutions for reducing downtime during scheduled maintenance. An internally mounted coupling is used to rehabilitate piping systems from inside the pipe while the encapsulating coupling mounts over the outside diameter of the pipe without the need to remove the failing joint. ROcky ReacH Dam

Rocky Reach Dam was constructed in 1956. But every year, up to 6% of the salmon and steelhead runs perished in its turbines during their seasonal migration to the sea. One alternative: spill 40% to 50% of the water by the dam, at a cost of reducing power generation by $25 million a year. The second option: construct a pipe around the turbines so that fish could pass through unharmed. Today, the fish are collected upstream via pumps that conduct water flows of up to 7,000 cubic feet per second to attract the fish into the conduit. They are then transported through the 4,600-foot pipeline, held together by Victaulic couplings, to a discharge point on the downstream side of the dam.

E × E non-rEstrainEd coupling

E × E non-restrained couplings are used where you need system access, but you don’t need a restrained joint. E × E non-restrained couplings can be restrained externally if required. Designed to meet or exceed the performance requirements of AWWA C227, E × E non-restrained couplings will allow for angular deflection at the joint while maintaining full joint integrity. The coupling reduces vibration and is joined using as few as 3 bolts and nuts.

F × E Expansion coupling

F × E expansion couplings allow for longitudinal pipe movement. Restraint ring(s) welded to one pipe end keeps the coupling in-place over the joint while allowing the other pipe end to move to design specifications. Able to accommodate up to 4"/101.6 mm of expansion/contraction in the piping system, the F × E expansion coupling is ideal for air systems. Since no rubber components are exposed there is no risk of UV degradation of the joint. A variety of o-ring compounds are available including silicone or fluoroelastomer for higher temperature services. BeneFits

A valve vault is a costly yet crucial part of water systems. Every space reduction results in a corresponding reduction in the cost of time and materials to create the vault. So what does piping have to do with this?

By specifying and installing Victaulic Depend-O-Lok couplings in the Hollywood valve vault the LA district water authority was able to save hundreds of thousands of dollars in construction costs. Because Depend-O-Lok type couplings do not require external restraints the overall size of the valve vault could be reduced by about 400 square feet. This translated into less concrete and time needed to complete this project.

F × F rEstrainEd coupling

F × F restrained couplings restrain pipe joints up to the full working pressure of the coupling with very little moment load transferred to the pipe. The coupling design allows for some pipe irregularities encountered during field installations. With far fewer bolts than competitive products, F × F restrained couplings are much easier to assemble and disassemble than other types of restrained joints.

F × F modiFiEd rEstrainEd dynamic coupling

F × F modified restrained dynamic couplings allow for dynamic deflection while restraining the joint at full bulkhead pressure. When these flexible, restrained joints are installed in pairs separated by a pipe spool (of calculated length) outside of a structure, the system allows for differential settlement between the structure and the pipe line. Using F × F modified restrained dynamic couplings can reduce the length of pipe needed to meet design criteria by up to 70%. The coupling design allows for some pipe irregularities encountered during field installations. With far fewer bolts than competitive products, the F × F modified restrained dynamic coupling is much easier to assemble and disassemble than other types of restrained joints. The coupling’s low profile allows for much easier protection where corrosion is a concern.

AirMaster standard duty single gasket coupling for services up to 400 psi/2750 kPa and FluidMaster heavy duty single gasket coupling is rated up to 600 psi/4135 kPa. Each coupling style meets and exceeds the performance requirements of AWWA C606.

Much lighter and easier to install than flanged joints, standard and heavy duty couplings can reduce installation time by up to 40%. Standard and heavy duty couplings also offer system designers a fully restrained joint without using external harness lugs. Restraint rings can be pre-installed by a fabricator thereby eliminating any field welding.

omniFlEx mEtal bEllows Expansion joint

OmniFlex metal bellows expansion joints allow for concurrent axial, angular and lateral pipe movement, with axial movement up to 4"/102 mm. The stainless steel construction of the expansion joint is resistant to corrosion and UV degradation. OmniFlex metal bellows expansion joints can be provided with a variety of connection styles to meet the design needs of the system where movement on more than one plane is required. When prepared with a Depend-O-Lok coupling, OmniFlex metal bellows expansion joints eliminate the need for two additional stainless flanges, bolt and nut sets thereby reducing the cost and the weight of the joint.

paragon mEcHanical Expansion joint

Paragon mechanical expansion joints are slip-type joints that allow axial expansion from 4 – 10"/ 100 – 250 mm. Available with a variety of end connections including plain-end, beveled, grooved, Depend-O-Lok or flanged, Paragon mechanical expansion joints meet AWWA C221.

When pipe joints leak and need to be repaired, maintenance and downtime are costly and must be kept to a minimum. Victaulic repair couplings provide two unique and cost effective solutions for repairing pipe joints from either outside the pipe or inside the pipe.

Encapsulating rEpair coupling

When maintenance is scheduled to repair leaking or failed joints, there is no faster, easier and economical method for repairing distressed pipe lines than the encapsulating coupling. The encapsulating repair coupling is ideal for repairing leaky Bell & Spigot joints, coupling joints and most other failed and leaking joints. The coupling consists of two housings that enclose the failed joint providing a new high pressure seal. The encapsulating repair coupling does not require removing and/or replacing the failed joint and can be installed without taking the system offline. Encapsulating couplings are manufactured to meet the size and pressure requirements of your system.

intErnal sEal rEpair coupling

Ideal for rehab projects where excavation is difficult or deep, this internal seal system reduces the difficulties associated with repairing pipes that are experiencing leaking joints. All that is required is access to the system through a manhole or manway. The internal seal repair coupling allows you to use internal resources to greatly reduce the cost of repairs. This system produces savings of up to 75% versus conventional methods. Standard units are designed for pipe from 12"/300 mm up to 144"/3650 mm with sizes as large as 218"/5500 mm available. Internal seal repair couplings are designed for systems with working pressures up to 300 psi/2065 kPa.

Victaulic Depend-O-Lok couplings are easier to install using the tools that are specifically designed to work with the line of Victaulic Depend-O-Lok style couplings.

ct-1 manual tool For typE 1 couplings

The CT-1 is offered in small and large sizes and is ideal for joining all externally mounted Depend-O-Lok style couplings. The tool brings the coupling housings together to allow the bolts and nuts to be installed.

ct-2 Hydraulic tool For typE 2 couplings

CT-2 Hydraulic tools can be used on all externally mounted Depend-O-Lok style couplings. Applying up to 10 tons of hydraulic force the CT-2 makes joining Depend-O-Lok style couplings faster, easier and more reliable.

ct-3 Hydraulic tool For typE 2 Hp couplings

CT-3 hydraulic tools are designed for joining type 2 HP couplings. Exerting over 25 tons of pressure the tool is the fastest, safest and easiest way to assemble high pressure type 2 HP couplings.

st-1 intErnal sEal sprEadEr tool

The ST-1 is required to properly position and install the arched bands used with the internal seal repair couplings. The tool quickly positions and joins the band sections to complete each section of the internal joint seal.

Fabrication

Systems can be pre-fabricated with Victaulic Depend-O-Lok couplings for on-site productivity. Assembled pieces can be positioned and field fitted to reduce on-site handling and project calendar days.

buriEd sErvicEs

Low profile allows the couplings to be protected from corrosion on buried services. A variety of coatings can also be applied to the housing to inhibit corrosion.

rEstrainEd or unrEstrainEd joints

Victaulic Depend-O-Lok couplings offer designers greater versatility. Each joint can be designed for restrained or unrestrained service to match the needs of the project.
