Verbal Defense & Influence 4.5 Day Instructor Certification Course Seattle, WA December 3 - 7, 2012 Class Tuition: $1097 “Verbal abuse is the worst type of abuse in America.” - Dr. George Thompson The course is designed to equip attendees with the knowledge to teach others within their agency how to control verbal encounters in order to generate voluntary compliance, cooperation, and collaboration. The program was created by George Thompson, Ph.D., the founder and developer of the Verbal Judo Program. Tactical Communication™ provides offi¬cers with the active listening & verbal tactical tools necessary to successfully manage not only their routine assignments, but also the extraordinary confrontations in which they find themselves. In most cases, confrontational situations will be di used. When words alone fail, officers are given the decision-making tactics required to justify enforcement taking action that includes the ability to disengage and/or escalate in order to take proper police action. In addition, this training program now uses Interactive Performance Based Instruction format that makes extensive use of duty videotapes and training scenario videos. This approach is more interactive, experiential, and learner-centered which utilizes scenario-based instruction to build on the experiences and strengths of the audience. The program will train participants to train their staff in how to manage verbal abuse, develop effective initial contacts, manage verbal resistance, de- escalate physical confrontation through the use of effective verbal commands, and debrief the subject after the incident to prevent future incidents. The emphasis of this training program will be to develop Ethical Interventions by staff with an oversight process for assisting each other in managing the subject’s, our own, and other professional’s emotions and conduct.
