...After two years of women winning the Nigerian Idol crown, Moses Obi-Adigwe, the sweet-voiced university graduate from Delta state finally got one for the guys, inheriting the Nigerian Idol champion crown from Mercy Chinwo. His victory is not just about the title though, the cuddly teddy bear is now 7.5 million naira richer, owns a brand new SUV and has a recording contract also worth 7.5 million naira.

I voted for him! Something I had never done before. But ever since I stumbled on the programme, I got hooked. I wanted the ‘Teddy Bear’ to win. For one, he had a voice that carried itself, without a crack or a drawdown for breath. Nigeria, indeed, has got talents.

The ‘Idols’ contestants, if nothing else, have shown that Nigeria is brimming with talents in all sectors. From modelling, designing, comedy and acting to singing.

And so, Moses has the crown, the millions and fame to go with it. But, what will he do with these? Like hot potatoes, will he allow them to fall out of his hands? Or, will he use this platform to launch himself to the global stage? At only 22, I fear this young man needs a lot of parental intervention. If for nothing else, to shield him from hawks who have already smelt blood and are circling for the kill! Fatima Garba spoke with the “I am a Champion” crooner.

On our fashion pages, we feature some trends that you must own now. The emerald colour is fast becoming a favourite,

and is so, so now. We have put together combo ideas that you can adopt. If you are a regular reader, you would by now know that we love shoes and bags. There is hardly

any month that these two don’t feature on our pages. Yeah, you guessed right, we have bags and more bags coming in subsequent editions. But for now, a peek at bags that are trending now.

All is not over with the AMVC Awards. Remember that plunging neckline dress Genevieve Nnaji wore that got her a lot of flak? Well, we’ve found the inspiration for the dress; complete with the hairstyle. See Inspired by... on pg.5. We wonder who copied who.

Enjoy our package. And, do have a great week!

INSPIRED BY...Be inspired by the latest bags trends, straight from the runway to your arms. They come in different styles, shapes and designs; totally meant to blow our mind. From transparent bags, as shown on the runway by Valentino, to the sack bag by Vera Wang, there are a lot to choose from as showcased by international designers at fashion weeks around the world.

Has never gone out of fashion in 2013; they will also be in all relevant, different sizes, shapes and styles. But among them are several major trends.

Odd-shaped bags were all over the place during fashion weeks. Balenciaga and holly Fulton bags created rounded shapes while Giorgio Armani went with an architectural aesthetic. Lavin created a small bag shaped as a perfume bottle.

Creative handles in bags were spotted at Chanel Show, where models carried a hoop beach bag and a minimized version of it and there were also

bags that had telephone cable

handles. And chain handles as designed by Miu Miu.

When Genevive Nnaji showed up at the African Magic’ s Viewers Choice Awards in this Bridget Awosika, plunging sexy number, she literarily set the Red Carpet ablaze. Tongues wagged and the

picture went virile on Social Media. While she got praises from die- hard fans, many gave her thumbs down for daring to bare this much. However, Genny’s sexy outfit, as we soon discovered, was inspired by International super star, Taylor Swift’s plunging Ralph Laurent gown that she wore for the People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles.

The uncanny similarity was too close a call not to be noticed. The floor length white gown, same plunging neckline, similar hair style and even earrings, are pointers to where Genny got inspiration from.To top it, Taylor wore hers to The People‘s Choice awards, while our Genny wore hers for the Viewers Choice Awards.

Although, Genevive’s gown was tweaked a bit; long sleeves, and side panels, nonetheless, we see the inspiration…..We say kudos though, as both stars look stunning. But, who would you say looks better?Send your vote to [email protected]

One of the standout colours of the season; juicy red on a clutch or pumps injects life into black and navy outfits. You can go bold and wear the hot colour head to toe and you’ll attract major attention.

Get dresses and shirts in sequins and crystals and bring out the sparkle in you.

Hip hugging bell-bottom jeans are back on the scene. To elongate your legs show off the full length of the jeans from waist band to hem. Wear them with shorter shirts that end at the midsection for greater effect.

- Sweeps Nigerian Idol Competition

By - Fatima Garba

What has your journey been like so far through the whole nigerian idol process?

[laughs] The journey so far has been interesting, to say the least. I mean, come on…Father lord. There are twelve contestants, right? And we get a list of 15 songs, and then you are now the twelfth person to pick a song. That has happened—twice!

Oh wow. So how did you deal? You don’t complain! You find a way to make

lemonade. You find sugar; borrow from your neighbour if you have to, and that is all that I have tried to do. Whenever things like that happened and I was the last to choose … I would go and listen to the song, and ask myself, why don’t I like the song, what can I do to make me like it.

So did any song choice ever scare you?No, I just tried to make it interesting. If I had

gotten all the songs I wanted it would have just felt too easy.

What has been your most difficult moment on the show?

I think it would have to be the Top 12 eviction show. I had just gotten in from [the] wildcard [round]. I had just been evicted and had packed my things to leave the house. And the day before the eviction show, I had heard another contestant—on the radio!—and doing an interview about the fact that she was on the show, and people should vote for them. Other people were doing PR and campaigning. I was just coming off the wildcard show, a one in eight chance, so I hadn’t done anything. I was just happy that I made it through!

Then I was like, wait. Nine of the other

contestants have had at least two weeks to campaign. I haven’t had a chance to. I didn’t have a flier, a piece of paper; what was I going to do? But somehow, by the grace of God I made it through. And, that week, I had sung a song that wasn’t popular in Nigeria—Jessie J’s ‘Domino’. It was tense but I made it through, and sadly two didn’t.

How has it been working with songwriters, producers and vocal trainers? What has that done for you as a musician and an artist?

Working with kdL [kehinde dacosta-Lawrence, music Director for the show] has been great…you read his credentials and you are like oh my goodness! he has worked with Whitney, Bobby Brown, Eddie murphy and lots of other [International] musicians. So, for me, it is such a blessing. One thing that I liked about working with him is that he respects your opinion. I tell him, “kDl, this is how I want to record my song. I want to change this, I want to do that,” and he says, “Okay, let’s hear it.” And if it works, it works.

Who is Moses as an artist, who is Moses as a musician? Who is he going to be in the nigerian musical landscape?

The prayer and the hope is that I am going to be that Nigerian artist that creates a song here in Nigeria, and that song is a hit in America, Europe. I want to do music that embodies all of Nigeria. I want other people around the world to acknowledge it, accept it and understand it. It is good to be original, but it is also good to be successful. For me it is all about finding that perfect balance between being commercial, being international but still making … an impact as a Nigerian artist. He [Moses] is going to be

Dear Anon,

Stretch marks take a while to fade off, and usually turn silvery and blend

with your skin colour eventually. Using the shea butter (original state) also

called Ori, is great. You can also mix some vitamin E with it. Alternatively,

you can buy the Palmers body butter its really good for stretch marks too.

Let me know how you get on in another 8-10weeks of using 2ce a day ( after

morning and evening showers).

All the best, Teri M.
