Using QR Codes in the classroom
CHERYL LYN FURLOW
Integrating new technology into classroom
“As more students gain access to technology like smartphones, iPads, and laptops at younger and younger ages, these items become an integral part of daily life. Now, many savvy teachers are integrating the technology with learning in new and innovative ways, in particular with the use of QR codes”

QR codes are a 3 dimensional bar code that can be scanned by students using smartphones or ipads.
Teachers can get creative and make different worksheets to have students work together or individually to solve.
Ways to Utilize QR
Codes in the
ClassroomThis may take some time and effort but it can be used in the classroom each year so it becomes worth the time.
You can use this to have students work with small groups or they can do it individually.
You can also utilize this with students and parents at home to review information or do homework.

“Teachers are using the codes to kick
off electronic scavenger hunts, create
audio or video book reviews in school
libraries, and promote upcoming
school events. For our first day of
technology class, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th
graders used my smartphone to scan
the codes in order to pull up various
class guidelines. I've never seen kids
so excited and ready to discuss rules!”

How QR Codes can help teachers• Get Students attention by putting up a large QR code in the class
and have it be extra credit for anyone that can scan it and answer the question.
• “Ask questions and get answers. Link a QR Code to Quora (at www.quora.com), the online question-and-answer site, where students can see answers to frequently asked questions and can also submit questions. You or other members of the class will be notified of posted questions and can answer them.”
• Have QR codes as a tool to additional resources for students on the textbook and handouts.
• Making a treasure hunt with questions and answers throughout the classroom to engage the students and help them learn in a different way.
• Use it to send home information on grades for parents as well as a calendar of things due, events for the classroom etc.
• Being able to have it linked directly to a login page for the website the student will need to access.http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-education-professionals-can-make-use-of-qr-cod.html
Now try this activity: it is a
“scavenger hunt”
I would place the QR readers throughout the classroom, I would group students together in pairs or groups of 3 to walk around and
answer the questions on the QR reader.
Thank you for listening to my presentation, I hope you enjoyed it and learned something.
