8 HOW TO USE GASPC PROGRAM

    8.1 SERIAL PORT SET-UP

The P.C. serial port for communicating with IPEX is automatically detected by the program at

startup, if the port is one of the standard serial ports commonly installed on P.C. (COM1 andCOM2 for desktop systems, only COM1 for mobile). If you are connecting the analyzer to a non

standard port, after the startup select the Serial configuration icon in the toolbar andmanually select the correct port.

    Main window commands:

Measure to start a measurement (after the instrument enters the measurement status thekey is renamed Standby and switches the instrument to standby status)

Print to print the measurement results.

Leak check to run the Leak Check test per avviare il test di tenuta del circuito pneumatico

HC Residuals to run the HC residuals test

Service to perform a service calibration (this operation is reserved to service men)

Before each measurement the instrument must perform a zeroing routine, a countdown is shown inthe Message display. When the zeroing routine is over, the measures are displayed and the Print key is enabled.

To exit the measurement press the Standby key.

Sensors and probesSelect here the kind of sensors and probes that are installed in your IPEX by checking or un-checking theproper box. For the oil temperature probe select whether it is installed and, if it is, the measuring unit (Celsiusor Fahrenheit).

Measurement visibility and positionSelect here how many measurement displays you want to appear in the Measurement window (check twobox for two measurement display, three for three measurement display and so on) and for each display thequantity that you want to be shown in. Only the quantities measurable with the configuration selected in theSensors and probes section are available.

    8.6 RPM S ETUP

This window allows a real-time set-up of the RPM probe reading. Whichever the probe used may be, thestructure of the engine and the quality of the electric shields applied to sparking plugs, distributors, ignitioncoils and wires may require to set a corrective coefficient. For, anyway, the displayed value, before thesetting, is a multiple of the correct RPM rate, the corrective coefficient is an integer divisor.

Connect your RPM probe to the vehicle and turn the engine on. Open the RPM set-up window and checkthat the RPM number, showed in the Correct RPM reading fields, is right. If not, adjust the RPM divisor tohave a correct reading.

    8.7 PRINTOUT DATA WINDOW

    1. Fill in all the fields with the data that you want GasPC to print. All data will be available forprintout whenever requested.

    2. Check the Print box to get the printout.

    3. Press Clear all to clear all fields before entering different data.

Press Cancel to exit operation .

    8.8 SAVE MEASUREMENTS TO FILE

This utility allows to save measurement values, taken for a certain time and at a certain rate, to a datasheet(like Ms Excel) compatible file. Before pressing the "Start" button, choose the "Sampling period" among 0.5, 1, 2, 5, 10, 30, 60 seconds and5, 10, 30 minutes.

After pressing the "Start" button and choosing the file name, the data saving operation will start. The elapsedtime will be shown in the corresponding box.The "Measure" and "Stand by" buttons have the same function as in the main measurement window.Use the "Stop" button to end the saving operation and close the file.

    8.9 HC RESIDUALS TEST

This test looks for HC residuals in the gas bench and in the filtering system.First of all, be sure to remove the gas sampling probe from the vehicle tail pipe.

GasPC will perform a zeroing routine and, if required, a warming up one. After the zeroing phase, the HCconcentration (ppm vol) value is displayed. If this value remains under 10 ppm vol for 3 seconds the test willend with a positive result and GasPC will close the test window. If the test fails you can wait for a while forthe HC concentration to lower or press the Skip button to exit. After a test failure, further measurements arenot advisable, recheck the gas probe and perform the test once again.

You can exit from this window at any time pressing the Skip button.

    8.10 LEAK CHECK TEST

This test performs a leak check of the gas sampling probe.

To perform the test close the end of the exhaust sampling probe with its cap and keep it close until the endof the test. GasPC will automatically switch on the gas pump and pump out air from the gas circuit.

The program will show the depression value inside the pneumatic circuit of the analyzer in mbar. When a definite rate of vacuum is reached, the pump will be switched off, checking for internal pressurevariations. If no leaks are detected, a positive result message will be displayed and GasPC will allow to close the test

window. After a test failure, further measurements are not advisable, recheck the gas probe and perform thetest once again.

You can exit from this window at any time pressing the Skip button.

    9 MAINTENANCE

9.1 HOW TO CLEAN THE FIRST INTAKE FILTER

Refer to picture on the next page.

The filtering system is composed of a metal filter with 40 m pores placed in a bowl like housing from whichcondensate is pumped out and a second disposable paper filter.

You have to periodically inspect and clean the first filter: remove and clean filter as described in thefollowing instructions and blow compressed air through it to dry it up before refitting.

Remember that a proper maintenance of filtering system is fundamental for the analyser life.

To clean filter proceed as follows:

    unscrew the bowl

remove itunscrew the cartridge bearingwash the cartridge using gasoline or similar solvent or soap, accurately rinse cartridge with waterblow compressed air from the inside to the outside of the filterrefit the cartridge in its bearing and place it in its original positionrefit the bowl

Please, periodically check and, if dirty, replace the paper filter.

NOTEEvery time you perform filter maintenance enter also a leak check test to control

    pneumatic circuit integrity.

    9.2 CONDENSATE DRAINAGE PUMP MAINTENANCE

If condensation water cannot be or is insufficient drained (e.g. after an inactivity period) the drainage pumpshould be cleaned from dust deposits.

    Proceed as follows:

remove the bowl of the first filter (40 m)

    fill the bowl using clean water;

with the instrument on, press MEASURE to activate the pump and let it work until the bowl is empty

    refit the bowl

    9.3 OXYGEN TRANSDUCER REPLACEMENT

WARNING! Be sure the instrument is switched off before carrying out this operation. We adviseyou anyway to contact our distributor before performing this operation.

Should, the analyser, show O2 sensor end of life message, the oxygen transducer reached its end of life.To replace the oxygen transducer proceed as follows:

Open the Filters-sensors panel on the rear of the instrument (refer to p. Errore. Il segnalibro non definito. )

    Unplug the sensor connector

    Unscrew the oxygen sensor

Write the replacement date on the sticker of the new transducer

Install the new transducer screwing it in its holder and properly plug its connector
