Above average gains were achieved by the engineered fibres'structures, where sales of Tyvek spun-bonded olefin, predominantly used in protective clothing, graphic arts and envelopes, rose over 30%. A new prod- uction facility in Luxembourg will go on stream later this year. Aramid fibres continued their strong performance: European sales of the high strength Kevlar para-aramid and the high temperature resistant Nomex meta-aramid (representing about one third of DU Pont's world aramid business) increased by 22%. European demand for Kevlar is expected to reach 5000 tonnes/year by 1990.
