OBJECTIVE OF THE COMPETITION The architecture requires the understanding and interpretation of new demands that will allow us to act locally on a global scale, from an interactive action that requires being the agent of change withinthe complexity paradigm. “POWERING TRANSFORMATION” COMPETITION

The main problems to be resolved


PROBLEMS TO BE RESOLVED 1º The actual highway There is a mobility problem to be resolved for people and cars.


2º The Football Stadiun Vicente Calderon.

There is an economical and funtional problem to be resolved.





3º The old brewery Mahou industrial fabric, which is now an open area, to be developed with a new building , with uses adapted to the sustainable criteria of regenerated neighbourhoods.


There is a topografic problem to be resolved


4º.- The residential area that surrondes all the site, There is an environmental and economic problem to be resolved with new activities.

Proposal revised under sustainable crieria The Football Stadium Vicente Calderon, must be re-used for social, leissure and sports with new activities in an metropolitan scale. A new green area must be developed on surface with bouth river sides. Cross conections. The new street proposed must be adapted to the topographic conditions. It could be only a pedestrian street or a boulevard New buildings up to 175.365 m2 =

COMPETITION RULES The competition will assess: 1. Cross-cutting scales: Interventions in the territory operating on different scales and capable of regenerating and/or transforming beyond the site where placed. It will be considered the influence of these decisions at a global scale: environmentally, socially and economically. 2. Multidisciplinary: Integration of knowledge and skills resulting from additional disciplines for launching an increasingly complex reality. The description of different disciplines that have been influenced in the project will be considered. 3. Interactivity: Working in open networks, using new technologies as an interaction opportunity to allow participative ways to make problems diagnosis, the generation of solutions and its implementation and development. Positive assessment will be given to open data collection. 4. Horizontality: Complicity and implication of multiple agents of diverse origins and operative cultures: Public Administration, Universities, Industry, professional collectives, city associations, etc. Actions needed at a public, privante, productive and know-how level to make the project feasable will be analyzed in detail. 5. Innovation: In order to face new challenges in terms of strong dynamic transformations: management, financing, building, resources, waste, maintenance, time reduction, flexibility and adaptability, image, etc. Ideas linked to management and financing needed for project’s lifecycle will also be considered. This competition intends to involve proposals developed in the university area - stimulating the transformation- for dealing with the architecture project from five requirements previously described: it goes after an answer, or an advance of it at the question:

MADRID BIOCLIMATRIC STRATEGIES

On buildings: • There are many cold moths. We need sunshine on

facades and on public spaces. • There is a huge temperature interval between day

and night temperatures. (17 °C on agoust) . • It is need indoor ventilation on june, july and august. • All overtures looking south and west must be sun

protected. • There is more thermal comfort on mornings than on

afternoons, all year round, bust specially on summer

On open spaces: It is required an appropiate outdoor microclimate, with: • sun, wind South-West proteccion and decidious trees

for winter conditions • shadow, water evaporation, trees and vegetacion,

for summer conditions
