IEC 60034-30-2 – Scope

Covered Industrial motors which mostly run continuously at or near rated load, and whose speed is not required to change often or rapidly.

Not Covered Motors that are designed for servo applications, i.e. applications where frequent overload or field-weakening operations or frequent speed or torque changes occur or no thermal steady state operation is reached.

Application of Standards and Regulations

EU directives, EU regulations, DOE rules, National Legislation

etc. are legally binding

('it's the law').

Standards (IEC, ISO, EN, NEMA,...) are not legally binding, unless: • they are referred to in a legal text, • the manufacturer references them

in the product documentation, for example by printing ‘IEC 60034’ on the rating plate,

• the customer orders according to a certain standard,

• a manufacturer joins a marketing agreement that refers to certain standards, for example NEMA PREMIUM.

Only the normative parts must be followed when a standard or a series of standards is/are applied. Informative parts, technical specifications and technical reports may be ignored.
