Rebuild the Process of Recycling the

Aluminum

Page 33: Unit 2 Extension Activity

We know that recycling is very important

because it helps us to reuse the resources we

have. Now, please rebuild the process of

recycling the aluminum.

Reference answer:

How to describe

the process…

Page 37: Unit 2 Extension Activity

• The consumer throws aluminum cans and foil into a recycling bin.

Page 38: Unit 2 Extension Activity

• The aluminum is then collected and taken to a treatment plant.

Page 39: Unit 2 Extension Activity

• In the treatment plant the aluminum is sorted and cleaned

ready for reprocessing.

Page 40: Unit 2 Extension Activity

• It then goes through a re-melt process and turns into molten aluminum, this removes the

coatings and inks that may be present on the aluminum.

Page 41: Unit 2 Extension Activity

• The aluminum is then made into large blocks called ingots. Each ingot

contains about 1.6 million drinks cans.

Page 42: Unit 2 Extension Activity

• The ingots are sent to mills where they are rolled out, this gives the aluminum greater flexibility and

strength.

Page 43: Unit 2 Extension Activity

• This is then made into aluminum products such as cans, chocolate

wrapping and ready meal packaging.

Page 44: Unit 2 Extension Activity

• In as little as 6 weeks, the recycled aluminum products are then sent back to the shops ready to be used again.
