Before beginning to discuss scaling and architectural options, a brief discussion of the basic DSM management components, their purposes and interaction. Basic Domain Management components:

Database communication links (labelled DB on diagrams) illustrate required connectivity between a component and a database for proper functionality.Inter-component communication links (labelled IC on diagrams) illustrate required connectivity between a components for proper functionality.Presentations must usually are high level overviews. Slides viewed standalone may lack detail or clarity without the speaker accompaniment. Always refer to the documentation (Appendix A: Ports Used by Unicenter DSM of the DSM Implementation Guide PDF file or, even better, Ports Used by Unicenter DSM in the online DSM Implementation Guide) to verify requirements for all proposed solutions.

Note the presentation will focus primarily on DSM infrastructure components in general. Additional presentations will include product specific product consideration and agents. All CA r11 applications will relay on the MDB for data storage. First release is supported for Ingres only. Shortly thereafter, the MDB and DSM will be updated adding support for Microsoft SQL Server. Early test results indicate that Microsoft SQL Server based implementations will perform better and scale more robustly that an implementation utilizing Ingres.

Important: No plans exist to support migration from r11 based on Ingres to r11 based on Microsoft SQL Server.Database communication links (labelled DB on diagrams) illustrate required connectivity between a component and a database for proper functionality.Inter-component communication links (labelled IC on diagrams) illustrate required connectivity between a components for proper functionality.Presentations must usually are high level overviews.
