OUR MISSION CONNECTING THE UN WITH THE PEOPLE IT SERVES

NURTURING THE NEXTGENERATION OF UN OFFICIALSUNIC offers internship opportunities to students with a strong interest in a career in international affairs. Each term, UNIC selects students from around the globe to join the office for an average period of three months. UNIC also organizes a weekly seminar for students serving as interns in the UN system in Washington. The seminars expose students to the full range of work being done by the UN and serves as a networking and career development tool. UNIC regularly participates in career fairs offered by universities and schools in the Washington area (DC, Maryland, Virginia) and beyond (upon request) to students on the UN. Contact us if you wish for UNIC to participate in your next career event.

UN DOCUMENTS & PUBLICATIONSStudents, researchers, scholars, and the public can seek UNIC support to find and obtain access to digitized UN records and publications. UNIC staff can assist with accessing and using the UN digital library (Dag Hammarskjold library). UNIC also has a collection of official records of the General Assembly and of the Security Council available for consultation upon request. Limited numbers of popular publications including the UN Charter, Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Basic Facts about the United Nations are available through UNIC.

PUBLIC INQUIRIESUNIC is available to responds to public inquiries about the UN and its work. Our staff is available to provide competent advice and/or to direct you to the appropriate UN office. Queries can be submitted though our website, via e-mail, or by phone. UNIC also addresses media inquiries.

Located at the heart of US policy and decision making, UNIC Washington organizes and participates in public events and briefing sessions, offers speakers, and distributes information about the UN and its work. UNIC also responds to public inquiries and houses a collection of UN documents and publications. UNIC Washington is part of the Department of Public Information: the outreach arm of the UN.

SPEAKERS, EVENTS & MEDIA ENCOUNTERSThe Center organizes seminars, panel discussions, briefings, luncheons, and other events featuring UN officials on a variety of subjects. Events are often co-organized with key partners in the NGO community. UN experts and UNIC staff participate at conferences, Model UN conventions, classrooms, news organizations, and other events. Contact UNIC to request a speaker on any UN-related subject. UNIC organizes encounters with the media and addresses requests for interviews with relevant UN experts.
