I. CollegeofNursingHistoryandOrganization

HistoryAtitsfoundingin1953,theCollegeofNursingofferedthefirstbaccalaureatenursingprograminpublichighereducationintheCommonwealthofMassachusetts.Fouryearslater,theCollegelaunchedthefirstMasterofSciencedegreeprogram,andin1994,theCommonwealth'sfirstpubliclysupportedPh.D.programinNursingincollaborationwiththeUniversityofMassachusettsMedicalSchoolGraduateSchoolofNursing.In2005,thecollegeoffereditsfirstPh.D.programsponsoreduniquelybytheCollegeofNursingandin2006thefirstDoctorateofNursingPractice(DNP)programinthestate.

ContinuousaccreditationfirstbytheNationalLeagueforNursing,andcurrentlybytheCommissiononCollegiateNursingEducation(CCNE),alongwiththesuccessofgraduatesinpassingbothlicensingandcertificationexams,testifytotheenduringqualityofthecollege'sprograms,faculty,andcurriculum.

TheCollegeofNursingisoneofelevenschoolsandcollegescomprisingtheUniversityofMassachusettsAmherst,foundedin1863.TheUniversityisaCarnegieDesignatedResearchUniversityVeryHigh(RUVH)andtheflagshipcampusofthefive-campuspublicuniversitysystem.Sponsoredresearchnowtotalsover$140millionayear,withincreasingemphasisonthelifesciencesandbiotechnologyapplications.

TheCollegeofNursingoffersanundergraduateprogramleadingtotheBachelorofSciencedegreeandiscomprisedofthreetracks:thefouryearcollegemajor,theacceleratedtrackforsecond-degreestudents,andtheRNtoBStrack.ThisprogramisapprovedbytheMassachusettsBoardofRegistrationinNursingandisfullyaccreditedbytheCommissiononCollegiateNursingEducation(CCNE),anationalnursingeducationaccreditingbody.Completionofrequirementsispartofthequalificationforthenon-licensedgraduatetotaketheNationalCouncilLicensingExaminationforRegisteredNurses(NCLEX-RN®),aprerequisitetoworkingasaregisterednurse.

Thenursingmajorbuildsongeneraleducationrequirementsandcoursesthatprovidethefoundationforanapproachtonursingsciencethatishumanisticandscientific.Lectures,casestudies,groupprojects,seminars,clinicalpractice,simulationinthelaboratorysetting,multimodalcontent,self-pacedmodulesandindependentstudiesareused.Communityagenciessuchasseniorcitizencenters,colleges,ambulatory-carecenters,communityhospitals,medicalcenters,home-careagencies,long-termcarefacilities,andcommunityandpublichealthagenciesareusedforclinicalpractice.Facultyassistsstudentsinexploringnewareasandinlayingthefoundationforacriticalthinkingandproblem-solvingapproachtonursingpracticeandresearch.

1. TestingintheCollegeofNursingpreparesstudentsinasimilartestingenvironmenttocurrentlicensuretesting(NCLEX),whichisastrategyforyoursuccess.

2. Testingaccommodationsshouldbepresentedtotheinstructoratthebeginningofthesemester.

3. Seatingwillbeatthefaculty’sdiscretionandmaybeassigned.Itisinyourbestinteresttoarriveatthe

testingroom15minutesearlytoensureanon-timestart.Studentsmaynotbeallowedtoentertheroomafteranexambegins.

4. Testingdeviceshouldbefullychargedandhavethetestdownloadedbeforearriving.Studentsshould

restarttheircomputersandbeconnectedtoEduroambeforebeginningtheirtest.StudentsarenotpermittedtohaveanyprogramsopenontheirtestingdevicebesidesExamplify.

5. Allbagsandbelongingsaretobeplacedeitheratthefrontoftheroomorawayfromthetesting

environment.Nootheritemsmaybepresentonthedesk,includingwaterbottles,mugs,orblankpaper.Nohats,headphones,orearbudsareallowed.Itemssuchasphonesorotherelectronicdevicesshouldbeturnedoffandstored.

UnsafeNursingPracticePolicy(Policyadopted2011)ThefacultyoftheCollegeofNursinghasanacademic,legal,andethical responsibilitytopreparegraduateswhoarecompetentinsafenursingpracticetoprotecthealthofindividualsandcommunities. theAssistantDeanofUndergraduateEducationorAssociateDeanforAcademicAffairsincollaborationwiththefacultymember,mayrequireadditionalremediationormayremovethestudentfromclinicalactivities.

AppendixH:ATITestingPolicy-WorkingDocument,Fall2017DescriptionofProduct:ATIisacomprehensivepackagedesignedtoassiststudentsinlearningtheinformationneededtoprovidesafe,effectivepatientcareandsuccessfullypasstheNationalCouncilLicensureExamination(NCLEX),acorerequirementforpracticingasaregisterednurse.AcademicRegulations:AswithalltestingintheCollegeofNursing,studentsareexpectedtoabidebythehonorsystemandworkalonewhentakingATItestswhethersupervisedbyafacultymemberornot.Atotalofupto10points(10%ofcoursegrade)canbeachievedbythestudent.Studentsareexpectedtocompletethefollowingrequirementsasoutlinedinthetablebelow.
