TYRE VALVE SYSTEMS FOR OFF-HIGHWAY,

MINING AND CONSTRUCTION VEHICLES

BACKGROUND

The Super Large Bore System was introduced in 1972 and was designed to allow signifi cantly greater

air fl ow than the Large Bore Valve which was introduced much earlier. Today, vehicle and tyre sizes are

increasing again. In response to the increases in tyre size, Haltec has introduced two new tyre valve

systems, Z-Bore and Mega Bore, which will make infl ation and defl ation of large tyres easier and quicker

than ever before.

SYSTEM COMPARISONS

This product bulletin will compare and contrast the four tyre systems available from Haltec. Listed

below is a chart with general characteristics of the four valve systems. Flow rates on the Super Large

Bore, Z-Bore and Mega Bore Valves were tested with a 750 CFM diesel-powered air compressor with the

pressure held constant at 100psi.

When using the Z-Bore and Mega Bore Valve Systems the size of the compressor will aff ect how quickly the tyre assembly fi lls

with air pressure. It is recommended that a minimum 150 CFM compressor to be used with the Z-Bore and Mega Bore Valve

Systems. This will give the maximum benefi t for bead seating, infl ation and defl ation. If a compressor this size is not available,

there will still be benefi ts in using the systems.

All core housings have the 1H-A145 core installed.

CLAMP-IN SPUDS

1H-T81 fi ts the 13/16” diameter valve hole. Can attach any Super

Large Bore valve to the rim through a standard valve hole

(13/16” diameter). Tyre must be dismounted to change spud.

1H-T82 is similar to the 1H-T81 spud but with an eff ective length

1/4” longer.

1H-K665 can be changed without dismounting tyre. Fits 13/16”

rim hole. Use 1H-A325 3/8” Allen wrench to hold spud while

installing. Do not use in continuous service. Temporary use only.

SCREW-IN SPUDS

1H-C100-R is used to attach any of the Super Large Bore valves

to the rim and is designed to screw in to a 1/2” NPT tapped rim

hole. The spud can be changed without dismounting the tyre.

1H-C100-R has internal thread for core housing.

1H-S85 angle screw-in spud fi ts 1/2” NPT tapped rim hole.

85 degree bend angle. 1H-S60 has 60 degree bend angle.

1H-S85D is similar to the 1H-S85 but with a locking nut with

Tefl on seal XX-BB065 so direction can be reversed.

SWIVEL ANGLE CONNECTOR

Component two of the Super Large Bore System is generally a

swivel connector that screws on the spud. Connectors of various

angles and lengths are available.

The other end of the connector accommodates an 1H-MT3000

fl exible extension which attaches to the 1H-R520 core housing or

the XX-E031 check valve.

Flexible extensions are made up in any length to allow the

extension to fi t the wheel confi guration. The specially designed

fi ttings and thermoplastic hose will not fatigue or crush during

service. Corrosion problems are eliminated.

Another important benefi t of the Haltec SLB system is the

ability to customize your extension in the fi eld.

1H-R969K consists of 1H-R520 Core Housing, 1H-R762S Swivel

Connector, 1H-R763 Straight Tubing Connector, 1H-R764R (2)

Tubing Connector Sleeves and 1H-B222 Nuts (3).

1H-R969K-1 consists of the above less the 1H-R520 Core Housing.

The 1H-R969K and 1H-R969K-1 kits are available to fi eld assemble your own

fl exible extensions with the 1H-T620 assembly tool.

The fl ow of the Super Large Bore valve is THREE times more air than the Large Bore valve.

Measured in cost of down time and the cost to service large off the road tyres, Super Large Bore is a bargain.

Protects core housing from damage. Has an o-ring seal.

1H-MB-8 Infl ator - Attaches to the valve body by turning the

knurled nut on the infl ator in a clockwise direction. The 3/4” ball

valve is used to open and close the air fl ow after the core housing

is retracted with the 1H-TL-700.

1H-TL-700 Tool - Fits the mega bore core housing to retract the

housing for infl ation and defl ation. The 1H-TL-700 should be

used only in conjunction with the 1H-MB-8 Mega Bore infl ator.

The 1H-MB-8 infl ator should be engaged on the core housing

before using the 1H-TL-700.

HIGH PRESSURE SHOCK STRUT VALVES

Constructed of stainless steel bodies for use in high pressure shock absorber struts, hydraulic pressure accumulators, surge cylinders

and high pressure pneumatic systems. Valves have 1/2”-20 UNF - 3A threads for connection to container.

1H-H7607 - For operating pressure to 2,000 psi.

1H-H798 - For operating pressure rated to 5,000 psi.

HIGH PRESSURE INFLATING CONNECTIONS

These high-pressure infl ating connections attach securely by hand or wrench to the valve cap threads of high pressure valves.

1H-307 Urethane Fill Adaptor - Attaches directly to the urethane

pump discharge hose with a 1/2” female pipe thread. An adaptor

bushing is provided to attach the gun union to a standard size tyre

valve. By removing the adaptor bushing, the union can be attached

to a tractor type valve (1H-TR218A), a grader valve (1H-TR618A) or

any Large Bore Valve (1H-TR650). Delrin plugs are used to seal the

valve after the tyre is fi lled with urethane up to the desired pressure.

The plugs are self threaded in to the valve by pushing in the hand

wheel and turning clockwise. This permanently seals the valve and

the adaptor can be removed immediately. This is much more positive

method of sealing a tyre that has been fi lled with urethane.

1H-IN80A Super Large Bore Infl ator Adaptor

• 1/2” pipe thread for easy air hose connection. During infl ation,

air pressure in the tyre can be checked through the stem knob

with a tyre pressure gauge.

• Reduces infl ation time by 60%, defl ation time 80%.

• The core housing is held in a stainless steel extractor by

a snap ring.

• Extractor is rugged enough so that the core housing can be

loosened or tightened without being damaged.

The 1H-IN80A infl ator adaptor saves time by fast infl ation or

defl ation on a tyre. After removing the valve cap, the infl ator

is screwed on to the valve stem. The infl ator stem is pushed in

to engage the fl ats on the core housing. By rotating the stem

counter clockwise, the core housing can be removed without any

danger to the person removing it. The core housing is pulled up

in to the infl ator body and held there during infl ation or defl ation.

Can also be used for liquid-fi lling tyres equipped with Super

Large Bore valves.

HOW TO USE THE PT GUN

1. Connect the PT gun to the valve system.

2. Record the pressure reading.

3. Open the air release cock to allow the air from within the tyre to fl ow over the thermometer

probe inside the gun.

4. After approximately 30 seconds, take the air temperature reading and refer to chart.

Copies of both dry and wet charts are supplied with each unit.

The IMT 1000 Bead Breaker is designed for

unseating tire beads on OTR tires up to 29-inch

diameter. Specifi cally, this tool can be used to

break down diffi cult 3-piece earthmover rims

with solid back fl ange/rim base assemblies

and rims with lock ring retainers. It’s adjustable

clamping jaw accommodates larger OTR

rim fl anges such as those on graders, wheel

loaders and haul trucks. Smooth, dependable

air/hydraulic action breaks inside and outside

beads in minutes. The bead breaker assembly

hydraulically clamps to the rim and pushes

the tire bead away from the rim fl ange off the

bead-seat. The lightweight 1000 bead breaker

works on single and multi-piece rims. The 6I-Y13

air/hydraulic pump is required for operation.

DUSTITE LR

The Dustite® LR is a wheel nut dust cap indicator for use where wheel trims with wheel nut

access holes have been fi tted. Until now, the fi tting of a wheel trim has made it diffi cult to

eff ectively use the standard Dustite® or Checkpoint® Loose Wheel Nut indicator products.

This long reach version of Dustite® allows the indicator wheel nut cap to be mounted on

the wheel nuts through the access holes in the trim so that the indicating pointers can be

aligned on the outer surface of the trim and be visible at all times for walk-round safety and

roadworthiness inspections and zero defect reporting.

THE SIZE REFERS TO THE ‘ACROSS THE FLATS’ DIMENSION OF THE

WHEEL NUT HEXAGON IN MILLIMETRES.

A simple and accurate means of measuring the wheel nut size is to use an un-worn socket as it is important that the correct size of

Checkpoint® is fi tted to the wheel nut.

They should be a tight slide fi t down to the washer of the wheel nut or wheel hub face leaving a small nominal (say 0.5 mm) air gap

between the two surfaces.

The size of the Checkpoint® is moulded on the outer face

of the Checkpoint® on which can be seen a series of radial

moulded numbers:

In this example the moulded arrowhead below the 3,3 indicates

that the Checkpoint® is for use with a 33mm hexagon wheel nut.

Where possible Checkpoint® are supplied in frames of 10pcs

for ease of handling and counting. All packs are labelled

Checkpoint

Checkpoint® is a loose wheel nut indicator that is used extensively by the transport industry

as an enhancement and development of fl eet safety roadworthiness procedures, daily

walk-round inspection and defect reporting and scheduled maintenance requirements. Its

use allows accurate monitoring for loose wheel nuts and helps prevent wheel hub damage

or the loss of a road wheel should a wheel nut loosen.

The primary purpose of the L-Ring Seal is to create an air seal where the tyre bead and rim bead seat are not completely compatible.

Some of the examples where the L-Ring Seal will prove useful:

1. Where you have an irregular butt weld in the knurled bead seat area.

2. Where during infl ation, the bead seating is very diffi cult.

3. When an air passage between the bead and the rim is identifi ed.

4. Where overloads and severe operating conditions cause rim deformation (defl ection) which can result in air leakage.

RADIAL TYRE BEAD SEATERS

One-piece rubber tube for mounting hard to seat radial, bias belted or conventional truck tyres.

As the tyre is infl ated, the lubricated bead seater forms a seal between the rim and tyre allowing

the air pressure to force the beads into the rim fl ange. As proper pressure is reached, the bead

seater slides out and over the rm.

Seal-A-Wheel is a liquid tyre sealant and anti-

corrosive agent which minimises air leaks resulting

from ineff ective sealing ‘O’ rings, rim parts, tyre

beads or liners.

By adding Seal-A-Wheel to tyres which have been

identifi ed as leakers (or preferably to every tyre in

service) downtime due to pressure maintenance

will be minimised as tyres will not require continual

reinfl ation. Tyres which may have required removal

to rectify a leak can now be kept in operation. Tyre

life will be improved as problems associated with

solution for sealing tube and tubeless tyres within the tread area

from punctures caused by objects up to 8mm diameter. Tyre seal

helps maintain consistent tyre pressure by reducing air loss from

Being a soap based product, clean up is easy. It just washes
