A fresh green binPlace raw and cooked meat/seafood scraps into a green bin liner or newspaper and place in the freezer. Hurray, fresh bins!

Waste tip 2

Some green bin questions answeredYes

• Compostable liner/bags displaying the seedling logo and the Australian Standard: AS4736

• Keep your leftover BBQ chicken carcass (and other meat scraps) in its plastic packaging and put in the freezer – on collection day put the frozen contents into the green bin and place the plastic packaging in the red bin.

• Place cardboard (no tape/staples) or newspaper in the bottom of your bin to keep it clean

• Fold your palm fronds in three

No• Biodegradable, degradable or plastic bags • Food placed in plastic bags or plastic containers• To all coffee cups and coffee pods• Fabric, pillows or doonas• Treated timber

How you sort your waste and what you place in your bins has a direct impact on waste fees and charges. Treat your green (and yellow) bins with care and only place correct items in them.

It costs less to process the yellow and green bins when they are used responsibly and have correct items in them, rather than spending additional money to sort them out after collection. The larger the red bin, the higher the cost due to the State Goverment waste levy which Council does not have control over.

The less sorting that needs to be done after collection and the less that goes to landfill, the better off our environment and bank accounts will be. For information about what goes in your bins visit www.tweed.nsw.gov.au/Waste or email [email protected]

Incorrect waste put into the green organics bin has to be removed by hand at an extra cost to Tweed ratepayers.
