TRAC Assessment

• Focused on institutional repository, rather than image collections

• Planned assessment would aim to formulate policies for preservation

• Areas of need for formulating policy– Standardizing definition of enduring value – Establishing and enforcing policy on long-term access

commitment– Guidelines on following digital preservation standards

Technical Infrastructure

• Special Collections– Sun Thumper, 12TB (used), 18TB usable – RAID 5, backup to tape

• NDIIPP– ATA BEAST storage, 7TB (used), 13TB usable– Mirrored RAID 5, backup to tape

• LOCKSS servers – 2x 1TB Iron Mountain servers (dual core, 2GB)

• Responsibilities included in 1FTE server/hardware administrator• Security by UNIX file permissions, firewalls allow white list of clients.

Some automated file verification (for NDIIPP)• Funding from general operations budget• Looking towards duplication across sites--Centennial / Hill for

disaster recovery and redundancy
