CHIMES The chimes call us to silent readiness.

PRELUDE Ever Faithful, Ever Near Franklin Ritter

PASTOR’S GREETING, INTRODUCTIONS, AND LIFE OF THE CHURCH

SPECIAL MUSIC The Water is Wide arr. Brant Adams Tammy Rauschenbach, violin

CALL TO WORSHIP L: Look for God in this place. P: We search for God’s love and peace. L: It is here, given for you out of God’s absolute love for you. P: Lord, help us receive that love and then to bring it to others. L: Peace be to you all. P: And also to you. L: Let us worship God!

HYMN #321 The Church’s One Foundation AURELIA (See music in bulletin) (Verses 1,2,4,5)

PRAYER OF CONFESSION Maker and Giver of all, forgive us when we are too preoccupied to notice your presence in our lives: when we walk through this world and fail to see the wonder of You upholding our lives and all creation; when we walk through our lives and fail to see You abiding with, within, and around us; when we walk through holy moments and fail to savor Your presence, instead feeling abandoned in the vast sweep of life as each day rushes at us with its demands. Open our eyes to Your presence, God of love, that we may lean on You—for You uphold all of creation in tenderness and power.

(Silence is kept for personal confession)

Amen.

DECLARATION OF PARDON L: When Jesus left the disciples, He gave us a promise: “I will not leave you orphaned!” For we, His disciples, live in Him and He in us— the presence of God within and around all. What a promise! Take courage! Take comfort! P: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! L: Let us worship God!

GLORIA PATRI Hymn #581

Glory be to the Father And to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, Is now, and ever shall be, World without end – Amen, Amen.

PRESENTATION OF OUR TITHES, GIFTS, AND COMMITMENTS

DOXOLOGY Hymn #606 Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING: John 14:1-14 (NRSV, Pew Bible p. 877)

1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And you know the way to the place where I am going." 5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?" 6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him." 8 Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied." 9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, "Show us the Father'? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves. 12 Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.

SERMON High Tech Race Rev. Dr. Sue Marie Baskette

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Apostle's Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

HYMN Open the Eyes of My Heart Paul Baloche (See music in bulletin)

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING AND INTERCESSION, CONCLUDING WITH THE LORD’S PRAYER

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power

And the glory, forever. Amen.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________TEXT: Samuel John Stone, 1866, alt.MUSIC: Samuel Sebastian Wesley, 1864

AURELIA7.6.7.6.D

This hymn was one of twelve written by an English curate to affirm the articles of the Apostles’ Creed withbiblical allusions such as 1 Corinthians 3:11 here. Though not created for this text, the tune was joined to it in1868, and the two have been inseparable ever since.

A big thank you to Trinity and Connie P. for such a quick and impactful response to the needs of the Navajo Nation. Below is a recent update from Brad Monroe of Grand

Canyon Presbytery.

We are an Easter people, and it is marvelous to witness the way our churches are stepping forward “when required to accomplish that which has never been achieved.” It is

marvelous to witness the way folks in Grand Canyon have stepped forward to raise $40,000 (or more) in cash and in-kind donations for hunger relief on the Navajo Nation. It is marvelous to witness the way churches have sponsored “Drive through Blessings” that

have gone on for three hours. It is marvelous to witness the ferocity with which our churches on the front lines of justice advocacy have found new and creative ways to

protect our most vulnerable populations. It is marvelous to be the Church today—don’t ever let someone tell you otherwise.

Lectionary readings for May 10th, 2020, 5th Sunday of Easter Acts 7:55-60 (Pew Bible, p. 891)

Psalm 31:1-5, 15-16 (pp. 439-440) 1 Peter 2:2-10 (p. 984) John 14:1-14 (p. 877)

You are invited! Trinity’s Ruth Circle of Presbyterian Women is creating a woven wall hanging for the sanctuary. It will be displayed, bringing color and joy to our sanctuary, during various seasons of the church year.

The women are entering into a study called “Into the Light: Finding Hope through Prayers of Lament.” This is a study that takes a look at the Hope which is woven into our psalms and other words of Scripture. Hope and healing in our lives, when we are in the midst of difficult times and circumstances, is found as we turn to Scripture. Looking to our Scripture we discover that an approach to our journey of healing during exasperating situations is often begun with lament. “Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy, when I cry to you for help …” (Psalm 28:2). Lament leads us to remember God and God’s promise. Lament leads us to Hope. “As Christians, hope is not just an emotional response or an attitude of pie in the sky. Hope implies movement: both God’s inherent movement toward justice and our movement toward God.”1 The wall hanging will be crafted from submissions of material with a prayer, a quote, your favorite Bible verse, your own psalm or poetry to God, or other meaningful words. You may even simply submit material with nothing written in your own hand. Perhaps you would like to submit a piece of material that carries its own sentimental language quietly to God from your heart. Please know that the written words that you share on your fabric submission will not appear as readable text in the finished product. All writing will be blended into the weave and will become the invisible prayers, love, and words of faith with which it is made. If you would like to contribute to this woven wall hanging, please contact Mary B. via email at [email protected]. She will be weaving our prayers together into a beautiful new tapestry. She asks that you leave the fabric in one piece so she can tear the material into the sizes needed for weaving the piece. The color and pattern on the fabric as well as the type of material are totally your choice. A great place to begin searching for a piece of material might be an old pillowcase or sheet.

THIS WEEK’S ANNOUNCEMENTS

PENTECOST OFFERING: The Pentecost Offering unites us in a church-wide effort to support young people and inspire them to share their faith, ideas, and unique gifts with the church and the world. Psalm 71 testifies that a foundation of faith established during childhood helps ensure lifelong faith and service. Through the Pentecost Offering, you are nurturing the faith of those who are the church to come –children, youth, and young adults. You can give by indicating Pentecost Offering on a check to Trinity, text the word YOUNG to 56512, go to www.pcusa.org/pentecost, or call 800-728-7228 ext. 5047.

THE FRIDAY WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY FELLOWSHIP would like to extend a special invitation to all the women of Trinity to join in on Friday mornings at 9:30 AM to their Zoom gathering online. If this stay at home order has found you with extra time or a need for social interaction and a spiritual lift, please consider joining this special group. Contact the church office at [email protected] or call 445-4526 ext. 113.

THE SEARCH HAS BEGUN FOR A NEW OFFICE ASSOCIATE: It is with much sadness that I am leaving my position at Trinity. I have enjoyed my time here and felt such acceptance and care from all of you. This congregation is a great example of love, compassion, and discipleship. I have learned so much about my walk with Christ from being here and seeing how much you all do for others. The time has come for me to be closer to family, and so I am going to Tennessee where my daughter and her husband are expecting our granddaughter in early July. Many thanks for everything!

THE UPPER ROOM publication for May/June has arrived. If you missed the drive-up times for picking up a copy and would still like one, please contact the office at 445-4536 ext. 113 or email [email protected] and we can arrange a time for pick up.

LIKE OUR TPC FACEBOOK PAGE! The Outreach Team invites the Trinity family to go to our Trinity Presbyterian Church (TPC) Facebook page to like it! When in Facebook search, “@TrinityPrescottAZ” to find it and there you have options to like it, leave a comment, and/or share it with “friends.” This is a powerful tool to help us get the good word out about TPC.

COMMUNITY CUPBOARD NEWS: Thank you for your food and money donations. The money goes a long way because our buyer purchases items at a big discount for us. If you want to bring food please look for sales on canned fruit, canned meat, and peanut butter. These items are needed the most and cost the most for our buyer to purchase. Also, please continue to bring paper or plastic grocery bags and put them in the Community Cupboard box in the hallway outside the church office. THANK YOU!

CARE TEAM MISSION STATEMENT: To foster caring relationships within our church family as we hold each other up in prayer, encourage one another with phone calls, greeting cards, prayer shawls, home and hospital visits as well as acts of kindness for those in need such as bringing over a meal, help with grocery shopping or giving a ride to a medical appointment. YOUR MISSION "If you choose to accept it": is to let us know if you need

our assistance!! Contact the church office: 445-4536 ext. 113, Charlene: 771-8845 or 273-6093, or Charlie: 925-0057.

PER CAPITA - As Presbyterians, we agree to participate in the life of the wider church by serving Presbytery, Synod, and General Assembly. One of the ways we do this is through

our Per Capita apportionment which is how we mutually share the cost of coming together to discern the Spirit's leading for the future. Each member is responsible for their share of this cost. The Presbytery of Grand Canyon approved the 2020 Per Capita apportionment at $37.35 per member. Per Capita gifts should be made payable to Trinity and will be forwarded on to the Presbytery.

PASTOR SUE MARIE'S EMAIL: When corresponding with Pastor Sue Marie by email please double check what email address you are using. Please use the [email protected] address. There is another email address being used that is no longer active. Using an address other than the [email protected] will result in lost correspondence - and we do not want that happening. Thank you so much for your attention to this issue.

THE PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY meets the second Thursday of each month, at 1:00 PM in The Family Room at church. Join us if you knit or crochet or would like to learn! Contact Charlene (928-771-8845) if you would like to receive a prayer shawl; we present them to our members who are welcoming a new baby, graduating high school, turning 90, or feel in need of the comfort of a prayer shawl.
