The unique manufacturing processwhich makes both the outer and innercannula simultaneously, means that allShiley reusable inner cannula tubes are aperfect fit to the outer cannula. Thisresults in major benefits for both patientsand staff. This helps prevent secretionsfrom tracking between the inner andouter cannula, and prevents tissueovergrowth into the distal tip of the tube.

Innovation in cuff technology will enableus during 2005 to commence anongoing programme of adding theSealGuard™ cuff technology to someproducts. SealGuard is an ultra-thinstrong polyurethane material that allowssealing at lower cuff pressures andthrough the reduced channelling effect,has potential to reduce VAP’s.

Unusual anatomy sometimes means thatstandard tubes are not suitable. We areable to supply custom made productsmeeting individual specific requirements.

Accurate manufacturing using highquality materials and excellent designensure maximum safety in allapplications.All Tracheosoft tubes are made from softthermosensitive material and haveflexible shapes.

The large low-pressure, thin-walled cuffpresent features that ensure a seal at lowcuff pressures avoiding complicationsdue to tracheal mucosal damage.

Some products in the tracheosoft rangeare fitted with the Lanz™ system, whichactively regulates cuff pressure andprevents tracheal damage bycompensating for both increases anddecreases in cuff pressures.

If anatomical conditions mean thatstandard tubes cannot be used, we areable to supply products manufactured inrelation to the specific requirements ofthe patient.

Lanz™

SystemAutomatically controls and limits cuff pressure for the entire duration of intubation and ventilation

It is good practice to monitor cuff pressure toprevent tracheal complications in all patientswith a cuffed tube. The Lanz system is designedto regulate cuff pressure automatically tominimise the risk of mucosal damage.

How does the Lanz System work?1. A syringe is used to fill the Lanz system with

about 40 ml of air. Following this procedurecuff pressure will reach 22-25 mm Hg

2. After removing the syringe, the systemautomatically maintains cuff pressure below25mm Hg(In the tracheal wall, average capilliaryperfusion pressure is about 35 mm Hg)

3. The special built-in control valveautomatically regulates pressure in the cuffand the Lanz pilot balloon

Syringes or pressure gauges must not be

connected permanently to the Lanz System;

otherwise it will not function correctly.

Features and benefits:- The Lanz external pilot balloon and the

adjustment valve continually regulate cuffpressure and prevent over or under inflation.

- The external pilot balloon provides immediatevisual confirmation of cuff inflation.

- The Lanz system eliminates manual controlof tracheal tube cuff pressure (although thisis always possible) if necessary

- Reduces the risk of fluid aspiration aroundthe cuff

- Maintains safe cuff pressure at different altitudes during air transport

- The Lanz system is permanently bonded intothe tube to avoid the risk of disconnection
