Reactions 627 - 16 Nov 1996 Toxic Chinese medicine banned in Hong Kong. Seven brands of the traditional chinese medicine, Niu Huang Chieh Tu Pien, have been banned by the Hong Kong government. The action was taken after the pills were found to contain toxic levels of arsenic (2–4µg); levels > 1.5µg are considered toxic. According to press reports, the medicine may be linked to the death of a 12-year-old girl last month.
