CANADA DAY CELEBRATION Come out and celebrate Canada Day on Monday, July 1st, 2019. There will be events throughout the day with fireworks at dusk at the Fairgrounds on Imperial St. N., Massey. EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS TIPS Emergency Preparedness is everyone’s responsibility, but not everyone has the means or capacity to deal with emergencies. We encourage you to check on your neighbours to make sure they’re okay – knock on their door if you have to – and reach out to family and friends who may need your help during an emergency. MAKE A PLAN – Create your emergency family plan and practice it. BUILD A KIT – Get together with your family and put together an emergency kit with enough supplies to last 72 hours (three days). Donations of non-perishable food items and personal hygiene products are very much appreciated. The firefighters will be holding a food drive in October – watch for flyers later this year. SWIMMING POOLS - MASSEY In 2016 Council amended the user fee bylaw to include a water usage fee for swimming pools, for properties in Massey serviced by the municipal water system. There is an annual fee of $100.00 for properties with swimming pools, regardless of its size. If your property has been identified as having a swimming pool you will see an additional charge on the July – Sept. water bill. The total amount is due by September 30th. Please note that all swimming pools which are at least 50cm (19.6 feet) in depth must be totally enclosed by a fence having a minimum height of 1.5m (5 feet) with a self-locking gate. The effect is to allow the minimum frontage on the public road to be no less than 13 meters. The property is described as Hallam Township, Parcel 490, Parcel 726, Part of Lot 8, Concession 6; Parcel 938, Lot 8, Concession 5. This application is subject to a consent application under the Planning Act. Bylaw 2019-22 – The purpose of the zoning amendment is to allow for a reduced side yard setback in the Residential Zone. The effect is to allow for construction with a reduced exterior side yard setback. The property is described as Salter Township, Section 28, Parcel 28-1 & 29-1, Plan D261, Units 28 & 29. This application is not subject of any other application under the Planning Act. APPEAL - The last date for filing a notice of appeal of the by-law is June 24, 2019. Any such appeal must be filed with the clerk of the municipality and must set out the reasons for the appeal and must be accompanied by the fee required by the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal. Only individuals, corporations and public bodies may appeal a by-law to the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal. A notice of appeal may not be filed by an unincorporated association or group. However, a notice of appeal may be filed in the name of an individual who is a member of the association or the group on its behalf. No person or public body shall be added as a party to the hearing of the appeal unless, before the by-law was passed, the person of public body made oral submissions at a public meeting or written submissions to the Council of the Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers or, in the opinion of the Tribunal, there are reasonable grounds to add the person or public body as a party. These bylaws are available for inspection in the municipal office during regular office hours.
