Fucecchio • A castle on the Via FrancigenaThe history of Fucecchio is linked above all to the ViaFrancigena ( the old pilgrim way which some onethousand years ago linked Canterbury to Rome), thathere crossed the Arno, a part of whose antique stonepavement may still be tread on around Galleno. Theheart of the city consists of the Corsini Complex, onthe remains of the old mediaeval castle, now the seatof the Fucecchio Museum, and of the PoggioSalamartano, a religious centre for the local populationsince the 11th century. The journalist Idro Montanelliwas born here. The Montanelli Bassi Foundationpresents a vast array of documents about the journalistand his studies of Rome and Milan, entirely moved inthere.

Montelupo Fiornentino • The town of CeramicsThe centuries old tradition of artistic pottery inMontelupo Fiorentino, both workshop and kiln to theFlorence of the Renaissance, still lives on thanks to theactivities of renowned factories and numeroushandicraft workshops. The Pottery Museum, recentlyupdated and extended, presents the manufactures ofthe local studios, starting with the Middle Ages, goingthrough the period of greatest Renaissance splendour, and ending with our own times. Every year, in June, the history and the traditions of Montelupo are revivedon the occasion of the International Pottery Fair. Thisincludes shows, exhibitions, and art events lasting afull week.

Vinci • Leonardo’s townIn Vinci everything refers to Leonardo, the proverbialRenaissance artist and genius.
