The Toronto Botanical Garden is conveniently located in mid-Toronto and offers an array of 17 award-winning themed gardens and a LEED Silver Certified building designed to educate and inspire. The TBG offers year-round indoor and outdoor learn-ing experiences for all ages including programs, garden tours, nature day camps, field trips and an extensive horticultural library.

David Tarrant was horticulturist at UBC’s Botanical Garden until retiring to San Miguel de Allende and was the host of the popular CBC television show The Canadian Gardener for 17 years.

European countries have a long history of providing green spaces to their urban residents. But new challenges call for different approaches to planning and caring for treed urban spaces. Cecil presents a series of inspiring projects from Europe, focus-ing on how to connect people, parks and trees.

Cecil C. Konijnendijk is professor of Green Space Management at the Danish Centre for Forest, Landscape and Planning, University of Copenhagen and has authored some 200 publications, including the book The Forest and the City.

Offered in partnership with Continuing Education at George Brown College, this certificate takes a practical approach to gardens and land-scapes and is relevant for all gardeners – from beginners to those with more experience. Working professionals help students build the knowledge and skills needed to design, install and maintain gardens in Ontario. In addition, some courses offer field trips for enriched learning experiences. Most courses are held at George Brown College and offer intakes in the fall, winter and spring terms.

To learn more about designing with flowers, either for your own enjoyment or for professional training, enrol in the TBG’s Floral Design Certificate program. This series of hands-on integrated courses is taught by accredited floral design judges from the Garden Club of Toronto.

The TBG Certificate in Floral Design requires 96 hours of instruction over no more than six years. Students successfully complete five mandatory courses (60 hours) with an additional 36 hours drawn from a variety of electives and workshops. See page 9 for courses offered this term.

Lectures are held in the Floral hall at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission: public $20/Students $15/ TBG members free. Door sales only. Limited seating.

David Wistow will captivate you with gorgeous images of this magnificent garden, tracing its cultural importance, stages of growth and development, and historical highlights including the tumultuous seventeenth-century influence of Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette.

David Wistow has been creating connections between people and art at the Art Gallery of Ontario for more than 25 years.

Designers solve problems; artists raise questions. Step beyond “solutions” and delight in a world where there are more questions than answers. Explore shapes, patterns and pro-cesses that drive the universe, and examine artists’ observation and recording techniques. Gary will help you unleash the artist within, making meaningful gardens that express the relationship between a sense of place and your creative spirit.

Gary Smith’s current projects include several master planning and garden design works for botanical gardens across the United States. The TBG’s proposed new garden will be his first Canadian project.
