Abstract

The upper sandstone member of Zubair formation is the 3rd pay zone of Zubair oil field is formed from complicated substance of shale and sand and mainly consists of four dominated sandstone units AB, HJ, L and N (L and HJ consider to be the large reservoir units in their oil stock ,(separated by shale units. 3rd pay has been divided into six reservoir units ,based on log characteristics and lithology, with shale units between it . During reservoir simulation the reservoir has been modeled to predict reservoir performance under various scenarios and evaluate the impact on production rates, ultimate recovery. This study has been suggested by the Reservoirs and Fields Development Directorate/south Oil Company . The resent thesis studies the Mathematical model of Zubair field / third pay reservoir to test several prediction cases of two water flood patterns with different injection rates and observe water injection front advancement . The Petrophysics and reservoir data for Zubair field /third pay reservoir that taking from previous studies of National Oil and Franlab companies and from South Oil Company and Iraqi Oil Ministry inputs to the model CMG/Builder 2007. This study applied on three domes of third pay reservoir/ Zubair field and they were Hammar, Shuaiba and Rafidhiya . The black oil model CMG's IMEX/2007 simulation software was adopted to conduct this simulation study, this model is a 3-phase, 3-D black oil reservoir simulator, which incorporates all the functionality required for full-field reservoir simulation studies, including the ability to accurately model complex heterogeneous faulted structures, primary and secondary

recovery processes, and a wide range of well management scenarios, including well bore cross flow, and horizontal and multilateral wells . The simulation model used to study the fluid flow inside the reservoir and to predict the future performance. The validity of the model was achieved by comparing its results with previous studies as well as with past production history of the field . The two water flood patterns were the line drive injection scheme )existing the presently time) and peripheral injection scheme (suggested by SOC). These patterns had established by seven cases of future prediction, the best strategy were taking according to comparison between these cases . Producing oil at a rate of 220,000 STB/D from the reservoir with 375 MSTBw/D as a peripheral waterflood is proposed as a good plan for the next ten years due to the highest recovery obtained.
