Cub Scouts Are Like Knights Opening

Materials:None

Cubmaster or Den leader:You do many things that knights did.

A knight tries to choose the right every day. A knight helps others when he can.A knight shares what he has with those in need.A knight obeys.

Cub Scouts are like knights. We always do our best.

Crossing the Moat Game

Materials:Construction paper (any color) - 1 per Cub ScoutScissors (optional)

Ask the Cub Scouts if they know what the moat was that could often be found around the outside of a castle. The moat is a deep wide ditch that was often filled with water that surrounded the castle and helped to defend the castle. If someone wanted to enter the castle, they would have to cross the moat.

Instructions:1. Have Cub Scouts take their piece of construction paper (9”x12” piece of paper), turn the paper landscape (so that it’s wider than taller) and then cut or rip it (fold back and forth several times for ripping) down the middle making two pieces of paper that measure about 6” by 4½”.

2. Make a goal line 15-20 feet from a start line - In between the two lines is the moat.

3. Have Cub Scouts divide up into equal sized teams and have them line up at the start line. Each player on the team will cross the moat by using their two sheets of paper as stepping stones to cross the moat. They carefully put one piece down on the ground and then step on it with both feet. Then they put the second piece on the ground in front of them and step with both feet onto it. Then they reach back and move the first paper in front of them and step on it, trying not to step off the paper with either foot as they cross the moat.

4. On the start signal, the first player will begin to cross the moat using his stepping stones. Once he reaches the goal line (the other side of the moat), the second player starts across the moat using the stepping stones. The team to get all of their players across the moat wins.

5. If a person blatantly is off of their stepping stones, they will need to go back to the start line and try again to cross the moat on their stepping stones.

Quest Closing

Materials:None

Cubmaster or Den leader:Knights often each had a quest. A quest was a goal that they were trying to achieve. Sometimes they were rescuing a princess or searching for treasure or helping a kingdom fight and win a battle.

Cub Scouts - what are your knightly quests? Your quest could be that you are working on a Cub Scout rank or to do better in school. Maybe you are learning a new skill and your quest is to do your best on learning that skill. You have a knightly quest - think about what it might be and do your best in fulfilling that quest!
