Welcome to Counselor’s Corner Be the reason someone smiles today.

“If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you.”

It’s a new year; it’s a new beginning! Make 2018 Your Best Year EVER!

As we start the new year there are goals and resolutions that we hope to achieve. A New Year means a new beginning and chance to live our lives to the fullest. Inspirational quotes to kick start your New Year:

§ "Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence." ~ Helen Keller~

§ “Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come, whispering, ‘It will be happier.’” ~Alfred Lord Tennyson~

§ “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” ~Winston Churchill~

§ “Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man.” ~ Benjamin Franklin~

§ “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.” ~Henry David Thoreau~

§ “If you asked me for my New Year Resolution, it would be to find out who I am.” ~Cyril Cusack~

WHAT exactly is college? College can mean almost any type of education beyond high school (sometimes called “postsecondary education”). This can include: College/University, Community College, Trade School, Military, Apprenticeship, or Technical Training

WHY would I want to go to college? In a few years, nearly 70% of jobs in Nebraska will require education beyond high school*. So college could get you a better job – and a career you enjoy. And…you should get better pay! Did you know that graduates from a Nebraska four-year college earn more than $15,000 more a year than a high school graduate?

All Juniors Take the ACT Test April 11th, 2018. Each 11th grader in the state of Nebraska will be taking the ACT this spring. Paxton Juniors will take it here at Paxton Schools on April 11, 2018 will be provided free of charge. This ACT will be treated the same as any other ACT and students will have the opportunity to send their scores to colleges free.

How to help your student prepare to take the ACT as it not only determines whether a student can qualify to get into a college, but it translates to lots of scholarship money the higher score you make. There are multiple ways to prepare for the ACT. Here are several recommendations: 1. Practice every day on the ACT Prep website. 2. Register and take the ACT on Feb.10th. The cost is $42.50. Taking the actual test multiple times is recommended for all students. 2. Use free ACT prep materials online such as Khan Academy. Get a copy of an official ACT Practice Test Booklet from Mrs.Meyer.
