The purpose of this book is to help pre-teach what the structure and routine of a library experience will be like. With this book, individuals will gain a visual familiarity of their own library so that they can feel comfortable during their visits, be able to use the services, and interact appropriately.

This is my library – A personal tour in print

Come on in!

These are the sliding doors I see before I enter my library. Everyone is welcome at the library!

Bringing books back?

There are 3 holes in the wall beside the entrance. This is where you return the items you borrowed by sliding them inside the holes.

Thank you for returning your books! We share at the library.

Movies and Music

The library has many DVDs and music CDs for me and my family. They are located near the entrance to the library.

The Information Desk

The Adult Department librarians work at the desk on the Adult side of the library.

They answer questions for people who visit the library.

Let’s visit the Children’s Department

On the other side of the library is my favorite place, the Children’s Department! There are many things to see

and many books to choose from.

Library staff are here to help me.

This is the desk in the Children’s Department where the Youth Services librarians work. They help me find my favorite books, DVDs, and CDs. They answer any questions I have about the library.

This is the children’s restroom.

This special Family Restroom is in the back corner of the Children’s Area. Mommy and Daddy can help me, and there is even a changing table in here!

A computer to look up what I want.

I can use one of these computers to look for books, movies, and lots more! I can search by myself or ask the librarian to help.

Game computers

My library also has game computers that are lots of fun! At the library we take turns with other boys and girls.

The Story Room

This is the Storytime Room. This is where the librarians read us stories, and where I can sing, enjoy rhymes and move with the other children.

I see a table where I can color.

I can color at the Coloring Table. When I’m done, I take my picture to the librarian who puts it on the wall for everyone to see!

This is my library card.

This is what we use to check out items from the library. All items are free with a library card. But, they need to be returned on time to avoid paying fines.

Wow, I can keep my library items for 3 weeks before I return them!

Time to check out my items

I can either check them out myself at the Self Check-out machines, or go to the Check-Out desk where the friendly library staff will help me.

My library items are due back in 3 weeks!

I share my library

I share my library with other families in my community. While I am in the library, I will do my best to be a good friend to other

people. I will also take care of the items I borrow from my library so that other boys and girls can use them after me.

Here are some other things I might see at the library.

I will look for them when I visit my library!

I spy fossils!

I spy a shark’s tooth. I spy a game table.

I spy a drink machine.

I spy paw prints
