Pablo Picasso said: "Action is the foundational key to all success."
Think about what this means to you and discuss it with your parents.
We will be discussing it during the first week.
Bienvenido al cuarto grado! Fourth grade is a very exciting year in Dual Language. This is the year you get to really apply all those exciting things you’ve been learning since kindergarten. But, as exciting as it is, it’s also a lot of very hard work. You will have homework EVERY night. For those of you who do not have computer and internet access at home, you may be required to spend time at the public library. Math will require a lot more ready and application of the basic facts, so we hope you really know your addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. And don’t forget, writing is a huge part of fourth grade, so you will be doing a lot of that this year too. We have some very interesting field trips planned for you and a lot of fun activities with technology. This year is all about getting you ready for your big move to Middle School. So fasten your seat belts…off we go!!!!!

Attendance is always important when it comes to school. Please try to make appointments after school hours or as late in the day as possible. You have the school calendar, use that to plan vacations.
Remember, if you don’t speak Spanish at home then your child’s only exposure is in the classroom. Si no habla inglés en la casa, la única experiencia será en la sala. This is why attendance is so much more important in the Dual Language program.
We use the following grading scale:
100% - 90% = 1 69% - 60% = 4
89%-80% = 2 59% - 0% = 5
79% -70% = 3

Mary Espinosa: Sra. Espinosa will be your Spanish teacher. She is a native English speaker
but does well in Spanish. She will talk a lot about her adorable little boys, so just deal with it. She has been teaching for 56 years and is 21 years old.
Linda Rohlfs: Ms. Rohlfs will be your English teacher. Ms. Rohlfs is a master teacher who
is in her LAST year of teaching. She has taught fourth grade for 98 years and feels it’s time to spend the days with her family and dogs. She loves games and has a great sense of humor.

Take Home Book reading program:
Be sure to check the agenda every night. Students should be writing in there what work they did that day and what assignments they have for the following day. A circled assignment indicates it still needs to be completed. Although we allow for time in class to work on assignments, some students may need additional time at home to get it completed. They are typically due the next day unless otherwise indicated in the agenda notebook.
Paraprofessionals on the job:
Our fabulous paraprofessional staff is here for your support as
well. Ms. Ellias and Ms. Sanchez are both bilingual in Spanish and English. The ladies are primarily
responsible for the Take Home Book Program and will be
reading with the students on a regular basis.
Remember parents:
Dual Language is a unique program that continuously needs your attention. Please remember to read with your child every night. Even if you do not understand the language he is using, you can listen and ask the questions we have provided in the Take Home Book folder.
A child’s first and most influential teacher is her parent. Love for learning starts at home.
Assignments:
Fourth grade’s Take Home Book Program is similar to what you had in previous years. You will only receive a book in one language at a time. You will be required to write a summary about what you read each night. You may do this via email, typed and printed out or written on the sheet provided in your folders. Parents, please be sure to review your child’s work each evening or morning before school.
