"A strong successful man is not the victim of his environment. He createsfavorable conditions." - Orisen Mardenf

The true meaning of success may seem complex. However, the concept of success isreally quite simple: success is the progressive realization of worthy dreams, goals, and objectives. One never truly arrives at a destination called success, but rather is either successful or not successful at achieving goals and reachingobjectives.

In other words, success is not the destination, but is the steps we take on thepath to our destination. In order to succeed, we must successfully navigate thepath to our dreams, goals, and objectives. Once we see it as 'the steps,' we areable to calculate the 'next successful step' toward our destinations. We are ableto measure the 'success of a day' by determining if we are further down our pathsat bedtime than we were at sunrise.Though we risk failure when taking steps to succeed, failure is merely the binaryoption to success, as no is to yes, or off is to on. Thomas Edison chose to viewfailure as successfully knowing one way something would not work. He would thentry something else. By viewing failures as successful experiences, Edison was ableto get closer to his objective through the positive learning experiences of hisfailures along the path.f

Failure is not the enemy of success. It is the opposite, which means it can beproperly factored for successful conclusions. The real enemies of success arecomplacency, dormancy, and over zealousness.Complacency is not caring. If we do not care to successfully arrive at ourdestinations, then our dreams, goals, and objectives will always be only dreams, goals, and objectives.Dormancy is not taking action. If we care to successfully arrive at ourdestinations, but we do nothing about it, then our dreams, goals, and objectiveswill, again, remain only dreams, goals, and objectives.Over zealousness is trying too hard. If we care to successfully arrive at ourdestinations, and we are willing to do something about it, but we try to hard, wetend to regard our dreams, goals, and objectives as out of our grasp.t

Whether the dream is to have millions of dollars, travel to particulardestinations, or clean the house, caring, doing something about it, and keepingsteps manageable are the elements necessary to traverse the path from where we areto where we want to be successfully! The way to learn to do things is to do things. The way to learn a trade is to workat it. Success teaches how to succeed. Begin with the determination to succeed, and the work is half done already.”a

Success, it is pushed upon us before birth as expecting parents lovingly read allthe books to give their child a heads up on life. It is the one thing thateveryone yearns for, but what is the true meaning? Is it about money, beingpopular or just being excellent at what you choose to do with your life? In themost basic of concepts to be successful is to simply achieve something.

That seems a simple enough definition, but what of a successful drug dealer. Theyhave achieved what is expected for someone in that position, yet society willalways view them as a failure and rightly so. The discrepancies arise when we tryto contemplate what societies stance on success is. Is the successful housewifethat has sacrificed a career for a healthier family life as worthy of the word asa successful doctor that has given up time with their family for their career?a

Achieving wealth, power and fame is listed as one of the dictionaries definitionsfor success. What of the president, no matter who is in office, there areguaranteed to be many Americans that view him as unsuccessful, yet he has achievedwealth, power and fame on a level very few can ever hope for. It forces one to

consider the notion that what one does with their wealth, fame or power must befigured into the equation when determining if one is truly successful.

It is impossible to measure success without first looking at where one began inlife. It was no shock when George W. Bush followed in his father's footsteps andbecame president. Those that voted for W enjoyed the victory but it wasn't allthat memorable. When President Obama won the election, those that voted for himwere rejoicing, they were out in the streets letting the world know. The

difference in how the voters reacted was directly tied to where Obama and Bushstarted in life. Bush was born to a politically motivated, upper-class, whitefamily while Obama was born bi-racial and had a very dysfunctional upbringing.

The personal happiness of the subject being evaluated must also be examined. Nomatter how much wealth, power or fame one achieves, if they are a miserable personthat is unhappy with what they have they will never truly be a success. Asuccessful person sees what life has allotted them and is grateful andappreciative.

As with every philosophical question, the answer is never black and white. Theanswer always falls in the grey area, which could be debated for eternity neverreaching a set standard. True success is nothing more or less than being good at

life. It is taking what you are given and doing what you can with it. A trulysuccessful person can look back at their life and smile, knowing that they didtheir best.
