Why choose this course?This course is based in Derby Theatre, ourmajor live theatre venue in the city centre,so you have your very own theatre towork in.
Our students regularly perform in schools,at local and national festivals, at BuxtonOpera House, Derby Theatre and DerbyTheatre Studio.

What you’ll coverelements of working practice related toTheatre Arts. During the course you willencounter a range of practices includingacting, directing, applied drama, writingfor performance, technical theatre andpromotional/administration work intheatre production. You will also take partin public performances in the main houseof Derby Theatre, in studio basedproductions and at off-site specialistcommunity environments and schools.
How you’ll learnYou’ll learn through lectures, seminars,practical workshops, tutorials and self-directed study.
You will develop a broad range of skillsand will be able to follow your particularinterests and specialise in related areas.The general pattern of your work duringthe course moves from intensiveclasswork during the first stage, to publicperformance during stage two and on toautonomous public performance andresearch in the final stage.
Your careerOur recent graduates have gone on tojobs in a range of areas including acting,lighting design, directing, teaching,marketing, producing, casting, technicalsupport and stage management.
We create many opportunities for you toshowcase your work to a wider audience.By the time you finish your degree we willhave introduced you to importantagencies and support networks relevantto working in the arts industry, and we willhave helped you to structure your CV andreflect on your employability. We’ll equipyou with the skills to enable you tosuccessfully plot a course through thecomplex terrain of the creative industriesand start your future career.
Additional informationGraduates have set up their own touringtheatre companies (Fifth Word,Greenhorn, Define Theatre and DifferentDevices) and others have found work withother companies including NottinghamPlayhouse, The Royal ShakespeareCompany, Oxford Theatre Company,Contact Theatre and The Curve.
Uncontained Arts, our graduate theatrecompany, go on national tours annuallyfrom their base at Derby Theatre.

Entry requirements: Academic – 260 UCAS tariff points, ofwhich at least 220 must be from yourInternational Baccalaureate or equivalentqualification.
