Extremely rare and stylish period home located within the historic and charming Ewell Village.

There is a certain part of me that wants to be taciturn in my description so that you, the viewer, are gifted with the most surprise and excitement once you arrive and commence your viewing; however, this of course would not work, and so, it is with the greatest pleasure that we present The Well House to market.

Beyond the weathered steps and portico pillared porch, four floors, four bedrooms and 2,903 sq. ft. of accommodation await. Many stories are told about the history of the house and its previous occupants, these will enthral you and definitely form part of the attraction. The woven fabric of glamour, elegance and real period architecture makes this property irresistible. overview

The ground floor consists of a beautifully elegant sitting room which has exceptional views over the garden through the French doors and a large, handsome fireplace as its corner stone. The dining room has an air of the original about it with its panelled walls, window seats and large sash windows overlooking the railings to the front of the house. Both the dining room and sitting room have direct access to the modern kitchen which has a quirky shape and a charming appeal beyond the norm for a kitchen. The ground floor feels naturally drenched with daylight enhanced in particular by the attractive roof lantern in the kitchen. Additional rooms on this floor include a utility room and the must see cloakroom!

The first floor has two double bedrooms and family bathroom with the second floor offering two further double bedrooms, both en-suite. These upper floors are accessed via the fascinatingly curved staircase which winds its way up through the body of the house.

Moving down to the lower ground floor and this space holds much potential. Currently laid out as a series of rooms and stores, we have seen another similar property completely renovated at cellar level, creating additional reception accommodation which included a cinema room, home office and games room. The space is alluring for viewers with further vision and offers endless possibilities. step inside

The décor and aura of The Well House is in keeping with the architecture and period. The house feels established and “grown up” which inspires a warming, settled and reassuring emotion.

Externally, the rear garden is enticing; the surrounding walls are mature and mellow and will soak up the heat from the sun during the summer months allowing warm, balmy evenings to be spent alfresco. Mature trees, climbing plants and shrubs produce a wonderful, secluded ambiance and there is a choice of seating either on the paved patio or the decked area at the end of the garden. Set in the wall at the rear is a door leading to the area of private off street parking.

In summary, The Well House is a home many will desire but few will experience due to the rarity of this style of property, especially in an area which is close enough to London to be convenient and yet retaining its tranquil, village atmosphere.

“Twenty years ago, having driven from Surbiton to drop off my son at Ewell Castle School, I found myself parked almost opposite The Well House,” remembers Caroline. “It was empty and up for sale, so I arranged a viewing, taking my two sons. The house had a wonderful atmosphere with its original old fireplaces, wood panelling, internal shutters, hidden doors and staircases. It was fantastic and the children loved it.”

“A couple of years ago, we refurbished the kitchen; the solid oak cabinets were hand painted and the work tops replaced in granite. We also had the two en-suite shower rooms on the top floor refurbished and a new boiler installed.”

“After moving in, the cellar rooms, which had the same footprint and room height as the upper floors, became play and study rooms for the boys,” continues Caroline. “Internally we just gradually decorated through but, externally, some major work was required.”

“Originally there were large gardens at the rear, but the land was sold off in 1962 and developed” adds John. “However, the house retains a sunny and private walled garden. Adjoining the house is a part-Victorian paved

terrace with a more recent slate extension, beyond which is a lawn with planted borders. At the far end there is an area of decking and a rockery plus access to a long driveway which provides parking for about four cars.”
