The VARAN bus, the Real-Time Ethernet bus system

What is the VARAN bus?

• Uses standard Ethernet physics according to IEEE 802.3

• Protocol implemented completely in the hardware

• Use of short packets of up to 128 bytes

• High data reliability

• Automatic addressing

• Hard Real-Time with cycle times less than 100 µs and jitter less than 100 ns

• Direct access possible during the bus cycle

• Simple construction and command set

• Distributed clocks are not required (IEEE 1588)

• Hot-Plug capable
