Plan Ahead when vacationing or driving distances With summer travel and vacationing plans- it is important to continue and eat healthy. This may not be easily accomplished if you are stopping to eat at restaurants or snacking on chips, cookies or candy. By planning ahead you can pack healthy meals and snacks and take advantage of rest areas and parks.

Here are a few ideas: Take a cooler, some handwipes….

1. Pack containers of your favorite yogurt, if you crave some crunch add pumpkin seed granola or almonds.

2. Pack “no-fuss” fruits, grapes, berries, cherries, nectarines, peaches, bananas.

3. Pre-cut veggies and add a healthy dip such as hummus.

4. Check out recipes for summer cool salads with quinoa or cucumbers.

5. Check out the whole grain crackers available and pack some cheeses.

6. Pack some tortilla chips, pretzels, popped popcorn.

7. Pack bottles of water or fruit juices.

8. Pack some jerky… many are available for the protein punch: turkey, tofu, salmon, beef, bison

While stopped for your break, it would also be relaxing to stretch or complete 10-15 minutes of relaxation exercise. Try to stop at least every 2 hrs. to take a rest break. If you are the passenger, several foot pumps will help ease stiffness or leg cramps.

Have a fun, healthy Summer!!!

Have You Tried This? Spiritual Tips for Ordinary Days

Checking your Balance: It seems July—the half year mark is a time we receive updates on contribution and investments. Perhaps its also a good time to check on our time, talent, and treasure balance and i nves tment . These questions come to mind...

How much time?—how many hours do I spend playing bridge, watching TV, playing golf as opposed to time in Bible Study, prayer, worship and service.? Is there a good balance?.

How much talent?— whatever I have; the ability to speak encouragement, visit and listen, writing skills to send notes and cards,

handwork or woodwork that could be shared. Do I use it only for my own enjoyment and how much do I use in the service of others. Is there a good balance?

How much do I spend?— on eating out, vacations, or hair care as opposed to gifts to ELCA World Hunger, the food pantry, local charities?

How do the figures stack up? We certainly need to take care of ourselves and leisure is important. But checking the balance is also wise. Not sure about your balance – talk to the Lord about it.

Ever since a dear friend of mine served as pastor of the Lutheran Church in Bethlehem and recommended that I read the book I AM A PALISTIAN CHRISTIAN, by Mitri Raheb, I have had a real compassion for those people. Our library has recently purchased FAITH IN THE FACE OF EMPIRE (261.70 Rah) also by Raheb and I would highly recommend it. Mitri Raheb is the senior pastor of the Lutheran Christmas Church in Bethlehem, president of Dar al Kalima University College in Bethlehem and also president of the Synod of the ELCA Church in Jordan. He wrote this book during the time he was at Yale Divinity School in 2012 and states that the importance of geo-politics is of primary importance

in understanding the situation in the Middle East. I was especially touched by the fifth chapter which deals with what life under the empire has meant for the people of Palestine and what it means for them today. The seventh chapter introduces faith in God as the power that challenges the empire and the ninth chapter expresses Raheb’s hopes for the future for his country. Library Lines are written by volunteers from Trinity Church. A review of anything from our church’s library, including videos, is welcome. Reviews from the children’s and youth sections are also welcome.

Thank You Notes

Dear Trinity Staff and Congregation,

We want to express our sincere love and gratitude to all of you for your prayers, encouragement, support, food, cards, flowers, visits, and memorials during our mom’s illness and passing.

You have blessed our family in so many ways through the years. We know our mom loved the

Lord and this wonderful church body. We thank you for loving us during our difficult time.

God’s blessings to all of you,

The Dick Liljeberg Family

Thanks for the prayers during my recent hospital stay. Also, the visits from the ladies of the Church and the pretty bouquet of flowers. It was all greatly appreciated.

Birdies for Charity is a program that enhances your gifts / pledge to Trinity Lutheran Church. When you make a charitable gift to Trinity through Birdies for Charity, the Birdies fund supplements your gift with a 5-10% bonus. We encourage Trinity members to consider fulfilling the last two or three months of your 2016 planned giving to Trinity - by sending those dollars through the Birdies program. Or perhaps you would like make

an additional supplemental gift beyond your regular pledge. If you would like to learn more about this program or to receive an official pledge form, contact the church office. Pledge forms are available in the kiosk. Pledge forms must be received at the tournament office by August 12. Trinity’s Birdie number is 1328.
