RECTOR’S MESSAGE
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
As this edition of the Chimes arrives in your mailbox or email during Holy Week, I pray you will be able to spend some quiet and holy time with Jesus. Before the end of the week our palm branches will turn from life-giving green branches that are flexible to branches that are unbendable and brittle. Throughout the year they will remind us of our loving King, Jesus, and his life that he gave to show us God’s complete love for us. Later this week, we will celebrate the Last Supper, partici-pate in foot washing, and then remember the death of Jesus. The dark-ness of Good Friday: the humiliation, the beatings, the stripping, the nailing and dying. Then there is the quiet stillness of the empty tomb on Holy Saturday followed by the new light at the vigil and Easter Morning. Finally, the joyful sound will be heard in our community and around the world, in word and song: “Alleluia! Christ is risen. The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia!”
As you have heard me say more than once, each Sunday is a little East-er. Throughout our lives we gain strength from little Easters, personal and communal days of resurrection when we come out of various set-backs, disappointments, and tragedies of our own lives. But this week, I ask us all to be with Jesus in his final week, to support him as he al-ways supports us, giving quiet time to watch and pray with Jesus.
On the other side of Holy Week, on the first day of Easter, we cele-brate God’s victory over death. Jesus’ resurrection means new life for us in eternity, but also now. (continued on pg. 4)

An Easter Egg Hunt will be
held on Easter Sunday, April 1 after both services.
Memorial Organ Concert Sunday, April 15, 4 pm The concert is in memory of Richard Smith, husband of former organist Shirley Smith, and will consist primarily of Celtic music, as this was a passion of Rich’s. The concert begins on the organ with the St. Anne’s Prelude and Fugue of Bach based on the familiar hymn “O God Our Help in Ages Past.” Celtic music will be performed by woodwind quintet, choir, and the renowned Maggie Sansone on hammered dulcimer with Bob Esty on Celtic harp. All are welcome.
Victorian Tea Sunday, April 22, 2 pm Admission $15. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Tea sandwiches, drinks, and traditional British Sweets included. A presentation on Victorian fans will be included. Fanciful attire is encouraged. Ticket auction and door prizes, too! Please sign up for food donations or to help the day of the tea.

MAY EVENTS
Bishop Visit—May 6 Bishop Audrey will be at Trinity on Sunday, May 6. At that service new members of Trinity may be confirmed or received in to the Episcopal Church or renew their baptismal vows. In addition, an Inquirer’s Class is offered for new people or anyone who would like a refresher. Two history DVDs are available to borrow—The Story of Anglicanism and The History of the Episcopal Church. Talk with Fr. Ken for more details.
Gift for Mother’s Day If you would like to honor your mother in a special way on Mother’s Day, you may make a gift to Trinity’s Endowment Fund in memory of or in thanksgiving for your mother. Please submit your donation and names by May 6. Names will be listed in the bulletin on Mother’s Day, May 13.
United Thank Offering - Sunday, May 13 The power of the Blue Box is unlimited! It is such a simple thing to take a moment each day to pause, reflect upon the many blessings in our lives, give thanks to God and put aside a few coins as blessings to the lives of others.

Lisa Greenhouse
Lisa was born and raised in Tow-son, MD, a suburb of Baltimore, and grew up at Grace UMC in the city where she was active in Youth Fellowship and head aco-lyte. While attending Washing-ton & Lee University she occa-sionally attended Lee Memorial Episcopal Church, but every Mon-day night you’d find her at the Baptist Student Union. This group was shared by W&L, Vir-ginia Military Institute and South-ern Virginia College for Women. She found it interesting to have an experience with people whose theological background was quite different from her own.
Following graduation, Lisa moved home to Towson and became even more active at Grace UMC. She served on the Church Coun-cil, Worship Committee, Nomina-tions Committee, Finance Com-mittee, as the Director of Aco-lytes, Usher Team Captain, Chair-woman of the Staff Parish Rela-tions Committee, and on staff as
Community Group Spotlight
Williamsport Fencing Club
Williamsport Fencing Club is hap-py to have been in residence at Trinity Episcopal for the last two years and moving into 2018. We offer fencing instruction, and practice and competition oppor-tunities for all ages and skill lev-els. Trinity is our Monday night home for practice bouting in Olympic style sport fencing.
We meet for practice bouting Monday nights from 6:30 to 8:30. We also meet on Thursday nights at the Williamsport YMCA, and offer instruction there.
Sport fencing is increasing in pop-ularity throughout the country, owing to the success of US fenc-ers on the world stage. It’s loads of fun (who doesn’t want to play with swords?), and great exercise. We teach all ages from 9 to 90, and for those who want to com-pete, we can offer a practice facil-ity and help anyone enter the world of competition. Wil-liamsport Fencing Club is a US Fencing member club.

After ten years with Textron Sys-tems in Maryland, Lisa was offered an opportunity to be the HR Manager at Textron Systems’ Lycoming Engines business unit, which brought her to Wil-liamsport. She did quite a bit of church shopping once she got here, and first visited Trinity in the autumn of 2016. After trying the UMCs in the area and not finding a fit, she realized that the one that felt “right” was Trinity. The traditional worship, service oriented culture and music all felt like home, and she’s looking forward to many years here.
Lisa Greenhouse is a new mem-ber of Trinity’s Vestry and is our Human Resources/Personnel per-son. She is also an usher at the 10:00 service.

(RECTOR’S MESSAGE—continued from page 1)
God wants us to always be shouting “Alleluia,” whether we are having a wonderful day, or celebrating with a loved one, small group, or in our larger community. I hope we all have those moments of new life and resurrection in our lives, from the birth of a child to reconnecting with an old friend.
I hope as a community we will sing “Alleluia” when Oxford House opens, that we will sing “Alleluia” as we eat strawberries at the Straw-berry Festival and drink tea at the Victorian Tea. That we will shout “Alleluia” as our children and those in our community learn more about God in our combined Vacation Bible School this summer. These are a few of the many ways that we grow deeper and share God’s love with each other. This makes me want to shout “Alleluia”!
In this joy and hope, I know as a community we can trust God to be with us in our challenges and opportunities as well, as we work with each other, with other Episcopal Churches, our convocation, our diocese, and United Churches to share God’s Love in the coming years.
We do all this as part of the body of Christ. As we read in the Gospel of John “I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit.” (John 15:5) And in the security that Jesus is the Good Shepherd. “I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep.” (John 10:14,15) Knowing that in all we do and in all our prayer time with God, that “God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.” (1 John 4:16)
Our abiding God never takes a break from being with us, in our Holy Weeks, in our trials, and in our losses. And he is there with us as we cel-ebrate our resurrections, when we feel like we have come back from the dead. Finally, Jesus will be waiting for us in our death too, to wash away sin and separation, to welcome us home to the sounds of never ending Alleluias! Blessings in this Eastertide. Ken+

The Feast of the Resurrection: Easter Day from Sermons That Work for April 1, 2018
Today, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Son of God, from the dead.
Many Episcopal churches will celebrate this most holy day with festal traditions and customs; these might include featuring brass quartets and tympani, flowering a wooden cross, or censing the altar and con-gregation with fragrant smoke. Many will gather in their churches to sing “Jesus Lives” or “Jesus Christ is Risen Today,” while others will gath-er at sunrise in fields, parking lots, beaches, and forests for an a capel-la service. For many others, the day may be celebrated simply, without any of these practices.
Still, wherever the Church meets, worshippers will encounter the Pas-chal Greeting:
Celebrant: Alleluia. Christ is risen. Congregation: The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia.
With these words, spoken in a hundred languages the whole world over, the Church affirms the miracle and mystery of Easter: that Jesus, the One who was humiliated, broken, beaten and killed, lives. We cele-brate in the sure and certain hope that he has destroyed the power of death and the grave, and “opened for us the way of eternal life” (Catechism, Book of Common Prayer, p. 850). In such a simple greeting, and throughout our worship, we acknowledge the joy and wonder of the Resurrection. In each proclamation of the risen Lord stands an invitation for renewal, not just for ourselves, but for a world sorely in need.
A Collect for Easter Sunday Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ over-came death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord’s resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
First Presbyterian Church held their final regular service on February 11, 2018. Donna Elkin provid-

A Service to celebrate the long history and service of First Presbyterian Church in Williamsport will be held on Sunday, April 8 at 3 pm.
A rummage sale of church items will be held on April 5, 6 & 7 from 8-12.

Operation Understanding (OU) provides diocesan grants to parishes that are deeply involved in outreach ministries that feed, clothe, and provide energy assis-
tance to the needy. OU also funds programs for disadvantaged children. Grants are made possi-
ble through the generosity of churches and parishioners who contribute to Operation Under-
standing through the Alleluia Ap-peal which takes place during the
Eastertide season.
Thank you to each and every one of you for your generous gift, and your kind words, wishes and pray-ers. It is heartwarming to know that you cared about me and the work I did at your awesome church. Vestry Minutes Summary—February 20, 2018
Father Ken opened the meeting with a video from the Lenten study, Meeting Jesus In the Gospel of John.
Welcome New Vestry: Father Ken reviewed the contents of the Vestry binders. An “ice breaker” activity (in which we discussed our childhood and later experiences with
church and God) allowed us to share some of our journey of faith.
Epic Percussion Lease: An electronic vote (via email) was taken by the past Vestry in January 2018 and ap-proval was given to Epic Percussion to rent space. Epic signed a one year lease to use the lower level space, and to use the gym one night a week, for $900 per month beginning March 1, 2018. They have already be-gun moving equipment into the church. The lease will be reviewed/renewed yearly.
New Authorizations to Sign Checks: An electronic vote (via email) was taken earlier this month to add our new treasurer to the accounts.
For Woodlands Bank (Investor’s Savings and Operating Account) add Deborah F. Sakash and remove William V. O’Connor. Authorized signers: Sherri Hartshaw, Sarah Reid, Christy Lassiter, Deborah F. New Sexton: Marc Garside, who is affiliated with Epic Percussion, expressed interest in the sexton position during lease negotiations between Trinity and Epic. He has been offered, and accepted, the position on a 60-day trial basis.
Parish Meeting Feedback: Tabled until minutes from that meeting are available.
Meeting with Dan Morrow: Brief discussion of the relevance of the Sources of Transformation Model to the mission of the church. Prior to the March vestry meeting, members will each identify one or more of the areas of transformation that we feel we can focus our efforts on.
Oxford House: Greg Smith updated the vestry on a timeline for Oxford House (page 9). A handout was pro-vided with an outline of monthly tasks to be completed before an anticipated opening in June of 2018 as well as income and expenses for the rectory. An additional $15,000 is needed for repairs to bathrooms and for washer/dryer and dishwasher hookups and Father Ken suggested that we might borrow from our emer-gency fund for renovations that would be paid back as more monies were found for Oxford House. This dis-cussion will be continued as needs for funds arise and grant monies are awarded/collected.
Acolytes: Discussion centered on continued encouragement for the younger acolytes, keeping less attentive youth separated during the service, and the Eucharistic ministers providing guidance and gentle correction when needed.
Key Vestry Issues Review: A handout was prepared of key vestry issues (summary on page 9) with discus-sion being planned for the next meeting. Fr. Ken requested that any feedback be sent by group email for ongoing dialogue. An additional item would be identifying space to re-locate the nursery to the first level with more natural light and closer to our worship spaces.
Vestry Retreat: Tentatively scheduled for May 5, 2018.

Key Vestry Issues
Trinity Place Renovation Project - Is this an appropriate expenditure of available money? The primary functional purpose of the work is to improve handicap access to the building and a secondary bene-fit is cosmetic. Modified project proposal is approximately $70,000. Estimated cost of drawings and information to the Historical Commission is $7,000-$10,000. Would a limited use elevator be more in line with our needs?
Endowment - Should a separate operational endowment be established? What sources of funds might be available? What impact would this have on our current endowment and pre-serving the building? Should the endowment resolution be modified in the light of current needs? Do we have two separate missions of preserving the building and preserving the parish mission?
Pat Konjevoda Bequest - How will we allocate the expected $310,000 from this estate? Approved $31,000 toward operating budget for 2018. A portion will be needed to pay off the boilers and repay Trinity funds we borrowed from. Allocate the remaining balance to investment funds, projects, or budget?
Mutual Ministry Review - Clarification of expectations and responsibilities What goals do the parish, vestry and the rector hold both now and in the future?
Budget - What type of organization, process or discernment should we put in place to anticipate our 2019 budg-et challenges?
