Both can produce good quality now days, but IMAX is still considered the best quality.
The wider in mm, the film the higher the picture quality (resolution)
The frame is broken up into pixels (ppi), the more pixels there are, the better the quality.
There are different aspect ratios for different screen sizes varying the width and the height.
Either PAL or NTSC Lower quality than HD Either 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio Can be broadcast / shown in digital (Freesat) DV PAL is an SD Format (Commonly used)
Computers Encode video in lots of different formats.
These are common consumer types.
Using the right format is important for maintaining the quality in a project.
Some editing systems can’t accurately edit with certain formats due to problems caused by compression
Online editing uses the highest possible quality to edit.
This takes a large amount of computing power and storage – when working with very large formats (2K/4K).
Import the footage at a lower level of quality Create an EDL (edit decision list) using the
software Re-import the footage used in the edit at
high quality ready for final export. Can speed up working. Modern computers can deal with 1080p
footage online. VFX operators still use offline/ online
processes.
Film from a camera is linear, literally cutting up the film and gluing it together.
Digital Video editing is non linear
You can reorder the footage and make changes at any time without any major problem
You can go back and change an edit easily
You can make fine adjustments
You can create digital transitions and effects easily and quickly
Tapes are not commonly used in Digital Video cameras to record information
These have almost all been replaced by hard disk drives / memory cards
The process of digitizing is faster and takes up less physical space.
But the files are less secure and memory costs a lot of money.
