THE POWER OF LIGHTING

City lighting :-

• Through professionally designed lighting techniques, the architectural night scape of a building and a city can be altered dramatically.

• The viewer begins to perceive the building differently.

• Intelligent lighting has the potential to add value and appeal to architecture.

• The emphasis is on judicious use of energy.

• The message that “brighter is not better” is

sought to be demonstrated through this exercise.

• Saving of power by using latest technologies is

the objective of the exercise

IIID’s role :-

1. Identifying suitable buildings across the city at which

to conduct the event.

2. Appointing and working with professional lighting

designers to enhance the appearance of the building

3. Coordinating with vendors and equipment

manufacturers to participate in sponsoring the event

and showcasing their products.

4. To motivate and engage young designers and

students of architecture for executing and

coordinating the event, as the emerging tomorrow's

professionals.

The event :-

• On a fixed date the identified buildings will be illuminated

at a pre determined time of the evening across all city

locations (ideally 8 to 10 buildings will form the venues)

• Student volunteers and young professionals will conduct

the activity at all locations along with the sponsors.

• The result of “before” and “after” are recorded by

professional videographers.

• Each site is lit for around 20min duration.

• The Man-on-the-Street is involved by inviting his

proactive participation and recording his comments

about altered illumination techniques.

Sponsor benefits :-

1. Direct interface with the design community.(approx. 400 designers

and students)

2. On-street presence at 8 to 10 locations across the city, during the

event and display of banners/ outdoor publicity material.

3. Coverage through a pre-event press meet, and print media.

4. On-line visibility when the events are uploaded onto internet,

YouTube etc.

5. Live coverage of the event by vernacular electronic media.

6. Sponsor slot for technical presentation and product display at

closure ceremony concluded by gala dinner at a common venue

where all participants and members will be present.

7. Dedicated post-event coverage in “INSITE” newsletter with national

circulation (6000 copies) and “INSIDER” newsletter with state-wide

readership (500 copies).

8. Co-branding on garments such as t-shirts and caps worn by

activists (approx. 20 persons at each location), and at gala dinner.
