What is photocell?

• A photocell is any of a wide range of sensors that react based on the presence of light or electromagnetic energy. A photocell can be found to generate electricity, to photoresistors, which shift the photocell is one of the most important modern technological advancements, allowing for a whole range of new technologies to be created.

WHO WAS THE INVENTOR OF THE PHOTOCELL?

The inventor of the first photocell was JULIUS ELSTER

And HANS F GEITEL

WHERE WAS INVENTED THE PHOTOCELL?

The photocell was invented in Germany

Characteristicsof the photocell

The photocell is Sensitive to the light

These device absorb the solar energy

These device Generate voltage owing to solar light

The photocell is used to act as a conductor.

Types of

photocell

• Photomultipler

Photomultipliers are extremely sensitive detectors. The faintest wave of light is multiplied by as much as 100 million times

•Photovoltaic.

A photovoltaic cell converts solar energy into electrical power. Photons knock electrons on the cell itself into a higher state of energy, causing a usable current.

• Photoresistor

Light-dependent resistors are devices whose resistivity to electrical currents decreases with the amount of light they're exposed to. Many alarms and camera light meters use cheap photoresistors for their applications

ADVANGES AND DISADVANGES OF THE PHOTOCELL

ADVANGES• They generate free power

any where sunlight is avatible• No moving parts• They can be set up and left

alone for a while and can be engineered to withstand the rigours of a desert or of space.

DISADVANGES• They don’t work in the dark

or in low light conditions.• They take a long time to

recoup the initial investment • The photocell takes time to

set them up and for them to start working.

HOW MUCH COST THE PHOTOCELL

•a photocell cost can vary from one dollar or more depending on use.

Uses of the photocell

• A photocell can be used in any situation where beam of light falling on it is interrupted or broken by any mean.• To count vehicles passing a road.• To count items running on a conveyer belt.• To open doors automatically in a building such as

banks or other commercial buildings or offices.• To operate burglar alarms.• To produce sound in movies.
