COLLEGE MINISTRIES

End of the Semester College Lunch Sunday, May 4 after the 10:55 Service

At the home of Matt & Ashley Luke, 611 Grove Forest Way

Please invite any college students with whom you are connect-ed to join us! If you are willing to provide a pasta dish, salad, bread, drinks, paper products, or dessert, please let me know asap—Allyson Willis 662-231-9929 / [email protected]

Please be in prayer for our students as they prepare for their final papers, tests and exams the first week in May. Many of them are feeling stretched already and need our support. Those with whom you have a personal connection, please reach out to them and let them know you are praying for them and ask what you can do to be there for them.

Preparing for my move this summer (June 17), I’ve been packing up my belongings in the church office upstairs and in my home. In

so doing, I’ve been reminded how much I love quotes.

Often wisdom is handed down best in pithy statements. I want to share with you some words of wisdom that have dotted my office

and home furnishings, walls, mirrors, refrigerator, and bedroom ceiling, inspiring me throughout the years, as I’ve served as one of

your pastors. Enjoy with meaning and courage!

Love, Claire

Thank you in advance for volunteering for this important event in the lives of your children! Thank you for giving time, for putting aside self for others. There is no better definition of Love than when one serves. Thank you for leading and for your impact — much of which you won’t even know about. This could not happen without God’s purposing through you.

Our hope is that we won’t look back and say “Look at what we have done”, but rather “Look at what God has done through his people.”

Notes from the Past SIXTY YEARS AGO: On April 25, 1954, Reverend A. L. Meadors reported to the Quarterly Conference that “The facilities in the intermediate and chil-

dren’s division have been improved and redecorated. Some of our departments are crowded and with an increasing number of children being enrolled, an ex-

pansion program will become necessary in the near future.” (It was actually ten years later that the facilities at the west end of the church were constructed.)

In April 1954 the members of Methodist Men “assumed expense of installing a new gas stove and laying of pipe to the stove.” Later they sponsored “a supper

of froglegs, chicken, etc.,” the profit “used to pay expenses of installing the new gas stove. Mr. Henry Butler contributed the froglegs.” ***

FORTY YEARS AGO: On April 7, 1974, altar flowers were given by Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Stubblefield and Mr. and Mrs. Johnson Garrott to the glory of God;

(paraments on the lectern and pulpit were given by Mr. and Mrs. George Gregory Taylor in memory of Thomas B. Browne); on April 29 by Byron Ellis, Lynn

Ellis White, and Janet Ellis Kahlstorf in honor of Mrs. R. B. Ellis.

Danielle and Dyan Buskolh were baptized on April 8, 1984. ***

TWENTY YEARS AGO: Scott and Tmara Ellis, Lydia Long, George and Susan Smith, Mary Halley Magee, and Paul and Tammy Radigan joined the

church in April 1994.

Maura Klingen did “Readings in Children’s Literature” at Mothers’ Morning In on April 18 and April 15, 1994.

On April 3, 1994, altar flowers were given by Dorothy Dodson in memory of Lynette Woods Chandler and by Mrs. Gaylon Fuller in memory of Gaylon
