On Saturday, February 27, former students THE ORIGINAL L.C. ANDERSON HIGH SCHOOL IS “HALLOWED GROUND” gathered at the campus on Thompson Street to reminisce and take pictures. The effort was par- tially supported by The African American Cultural Center of ACC. L. C. Anderson High School: Always remem- bered Always Treasured. Capital City Chapter Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., (CCC TLOD) spon- sored an MLK, Jr. Coloring Contest for residents at Walnut Hills Convalescent Center, 3509 Rogge Ln. The event was hosted by the Chapter’s Senior Citizen’s Thrust. Several drawings and colorings by residents were judged on originality, skill, creativity, and imagination. Dr. Funsho Akingbala served as judge for the event. The grand prize artist was Ms. Myra Schuler and 1 st Place artist was Ms. Janet Warnke. Ms. Schuler’s col- ored masterpiece of MLK, Jr. depicted MLK, Jr. with a cross at his side surrounded by flowers and vines flow- ing towards heaven. TLOD, Inc. presented additional prizes to residents during the MLK, Jr. “Trivia” game. Staff, residents, and TLOD members had an exciting time. As part of the annual Valentine’s Day celebration, TLOD provided residents with cookies, fruit and flow- ers. The continued objec- tive of CCC TLOD, through its Senior Citizens Thrust is to enrich the lives of Se- nior Citizens by enabling seniors to continue being an integral part of their community, while main- taining dignity and a sense of well-being. The TLOD National signature pro- gram is “We Care,” an ini- tiative that positively im- pacts senior citizens who live in assisted living facili- ties and nursing homes. TLOD continues to serve residents and staff of Wal- nut Hills Convalescent Center, and the the Austin community. In keeping with its mission to serve the senior community, TLOD, Inc. will soon host its grand “Salute to Senior Citizens” event which hon- ors deserving seniors within the Austin commu- nity. Chapter President is Connie Williams and Se- nior Citizens Thrust Chair is Jean Yates. Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., Capital City Chapter Hosts Black History Month Event 11th Annual Community Easter-Egg Hunt Scheduled at HT (AUSTIN, Texas) Children of all ages are in- vited to hunt for the thou- sands of eggs hidden around the Huston- Tillotson University cam- pus during the 2016 Elev- enth Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt, sched- uled on Thursday, March 24 at 4 p.m., 900 Chicon Street. The Easter egg hunt features a $500 scholarship prize egg, prize eggs for school sup- plies and gift certificates, eggs with candy and coins, and filled baskets. Chil- dren will gather in the Mary E. Branch Gymna- sium for a brief meaning of Easter story time before joining their age groups and beginning the hunt. The event is free and open to the public. In case of rain, the hunt will be held on Monday, March 28 at 4 p.m. For more informa- tion, call 512.505.3073.
