The models shown here took to the flowered runway showcasing this

year’s latest fashions to a packed house. Residents and family mem-

bers filled the room. Everyone had a great time ! Stripes, athletic

ware, pink and khaki are all the rage this year. Special Thanks go out

to Tony B. who escorted all the ladies down the runway in style! Stay

Katie is being honored again because of her tremendous energy and pos-

itive spirit. She is committed to insuring everyone is served in an effi-cient manner in the dining room. She is always smiling and is friendly to

everyone she encounters. A proud mother of one son, she lives in West

Seneca, New York. Congratulations Katie Russell and thank you!

A letter from the Administrator

Dear Residents, Families and Friends,

Happy June everyone! Summer is right around the corner and what a dif-ference a year makes. Now that the inside of the building is almost com-

plete it is exciting to see all the changes. We are now well on our way of enhancing the Memory Care Unit, so thank you for your patience during this project.

It was exciting for the property to be showcased on “AM Buffalo” and I want to thank everyone that was part of the taping segments. The airings will take place throughout the month of June at 10am.

We are happy to announce the new additions to our Nursing department. Our new Di-rector of Nursing, Paula Hammond comes to Orchard Heights with an extensive nursing

background. We are also pleased to announce the arrival of Antoinette Wilson as our new Assistant Director of Nursing. Please take the time to introduce yourself and help us wel-come them to our community. We are very happy to have them both!

Kindly, Colleen Roy, Administrator

Resident of the Month-Ulo Roorand

Orchard Heights was Recognized for Exceptional Care Collaboration with Hospice Buffalo

Ulo was chosen Resident of the month for his kind, quiet gentlemanly

manner. He has resided here with us for the past two years. His primary language is Estonian and he is fluent in English as well. He is a psychia-

trist by trade. He is the proud father of three. Ulo is a recipient of the Purple heart medal for his years in the service. At one time he enjoyed winter sports such as skiing and today he enjoys listening to classical

music in his spare time. Thank you Ulo for everything you do!

“The relationship we have built with Hospice has become invaluable. It is a privilege to work with such a great team and to offer our resi-dents the ability to age

in place with dignity”.

~Colleen Roy

Receiving this award is an honor for me, and as part of the wonderful staff at Or-chard Heights. The collaboration with the Hospice team has allowed us to offer our residents the opportunity to age in place and go through end of life in their own home. I have worked with families who have found such comfort in knowing they don’t have to move their loved one to an-other facility, and are grateful for the dig-nity it provides. Our staff knows what kind and compassionate care will provide to a family going through this difficult time, and they are committed to maintaining the exceptional service. I take pride in know-ing I am part of that team.

June is bustin’ out all over with its star-studded salute to National Flag day on June

14th, Father’s Day on June 15th and the first day of summer on June 21st. “You’re a grand old flag, you’re a high flying flag. Keep your eyes on the grand old flag” -George M

Cohen. The first flag was made by Betsy Ross in 1777 and the first celebration of the day was believed to have been held June 14, 1885 when a school teacher, BJ Cigrand advo-cated the observance in Fredonia Wisconsin. Inspired by decades of state and local cele-

brations, Flag day was officially established by President Wilson on May 30, 1916. How-ever, it wasn't until August 3, 1949 that President Truman signed an act of congress des-ignating June 14 as National Flag day. After hearing, a sermon about Mother’s Day , So-

nora Smart Dodd told pastors that fathers should have a similar holiday honoring them. In 1866, President Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers,

designating the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. President Nixon signed it into law in 1972. Happy Flag day everyone and Happy Father’s Day to all fathers, grandfathers

and great grand fathers and all men who are special in the lives of others!
