Mathilda dreamt of a much bettert life for
herself She and her husband were invited to an official
ball.
She persuaded her husband to buy her a new evening gown.
She also borrowed a diamond necklace
from her friend.
At the ball, she had a wonderful time as she was admired.
On the way home, she lost the necklace.
The Loisels borrowed money to replace the necklace.
It took them ten years of slogging to pay back the
money.
One day, she met Madame Forester who told her that
the necklace was a fake.
It came as a shock to her as she realised that she had worked so hard for
nothing.
