Resources to Help Your Small Business Survive the Coronavirus As individuals do their part to mitigate risk and protect each other and our communities during this difficult situation, it’s clear the coronavirus is causing financial difficulties for small businesses across the U.S. If your business is struggling financially during this time, here are some resources that can help ease the financial burden. The coronavirus response toolkit. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce put together a coronavirus response toolkit to help businesses and citizens understand how to navigate the coronavirus. Visit https://www.uschamber.com/coronavirus-response-toolkit for guidelines on how to keep your customers and employees safe, and more. Disaster assistance loans from the SBA. The SBA has announced that it will offer disaster assistance loans up to $2 million for small businesses affected by the coronavirus. These low-interest loans, available to businesses that do not have access to credit and have sustained “substantial economic injury” due to the spread of the coronavirus, can be used to pay off outstanding debts, payroll and any other bills they are unable to pay. State-wide initiatives to help small businesses. So far, the coronavirus has had a varying effect across different states. Likewise, responses have varied by state and local government. As circumstances progress, the best thing small business owners can do is check with their local governor’s office for the latest on state specific assistance, resources and updates. Federal small business assistance. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has called on the Administration and Congress to take critical steps to support America’s employers during this time. Plans for federal assistance for small businesses is still underway. Watch for updates as the circumstances progress. Tax relief. The federal due date for 2019 federal taxes owed has been extended to July 15, 2020, giving individual and corporate taxpayers an additional 90 days to pay their taxes. Note you will still need to file a tax return or an extension by April 15.
