THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING FOR YOUNG LEARNERS (A Case Study at Integrated Islamic Elementary School (SDIT) Nidaul Hikmah Salatiga in the Academic Year of 2012/2013). Thesis. Magister Program of English Faculty of Sebelas Maret University. Surakarta. 2014. The first consultant: Prof. Dr. Joko Nurkamto, M.Pd. and the second consultant: Drs. Gunarso Susilohadi, M.Ed., TESOL.

This research is aimed: (1) To describe the implementation of English Language Teaching at Integrated Islamic Elementary School (SDIT) Nidaul Hikmah Salatiga in the academic year of 2012/2013; (2) To find out the strengths and weaknesses of the implementation of English language teaching process at SDIT Nidaul Hikmah Salatiga. (3) To identify how far the implemantation of english language teaching at SDIT Nidaul Hikmah Salatiga give positif efect toward students’ english echiavement.

This research was carried out at SDIT Nidaul Hikmah Salatiga in the academic year of 2012/2013. It was conducted on April- Juni 2013. The school is located at jl. Marditomo, no. 21, Sidorejo kidul Tingkir salatiga. The method used for the research was Case Study as one of qualitative research. The subject of the research was the english teacher and the students of fourth and fifth grades.The source of data in this research includes events, informant and document. The data of this research were analyzed through an interactive model of analysis involving collecting the data, reducing the data, presenting the data and drawing conclusion.

The finding of the research is showing : (1) how the implementation of ELT to young learner in SDIT Nidaul Hikmah Salatiga.involving the general and specific objectives of the teaching; the syllabus model; the type of learning and teaching activities; the learner roles; the teacher roles; and the role of instructional materials; (2) the strength and the weaknesses of the implementation of English language teaching process at SDIT Nidaul Hikmah Salatiga (3) how far the implementation of English language teaching give positive effect toward students’ English achievement.

To sum up, the English teachers who teach student in elementary school suppose to: (1) Relate the materials to the students’ background knowledge, relate the idea of materials with something that students are already familiar. (2) Elaborates the new materials clearly and step by step elaborations enable students to learn information with greater understanding, remember it better, and apply it more readily when they need it. (3) Employ more pictures because the findings show that pictures are effective to teach meaning of words to the elementary student. (4) Make creative material in teaching English, for example make a simple song from the new vocabulary that was learned, teaching at outdoor class by “vocabulary hunting” strategy, etc. (5) Arrange the student’desks more often in small groups. 6) classroom are visually stimulating with posters, cards, and other that related to theme or subject matter.
