Sharlene Silver, recently wrote the following thank you note: The enclosed donation to Greek American is made with much gratitude to the people who were instrumental in my recovery from bilateral knee replacement.

The Therapy Department: Their tender loving torture on a daily basis made me stronger and enabled me to walk again! The entire third floor staff: The nurses, the CNAs and the housekeeping staff– you all helped to make my stay as pleasant as possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! With much love, - Sharlene Silver

August was exactly what we expected full of beautiful weather and lots of fun! The Residents spent countless afternoons in our gorgeous patio where they enjoyed the beautiful flowers, and the warm breeze while overlooking the fountains. The weather was so nice we were able to enjoy some of our usual daily programming out on the patio, including daily exercise, lemonade and ice cream socials, as well as, bingo. In August we went out on several outings including an afternoon at the movies, where we watched “Hope Springs” with Meryl Streep. The group had a fabulous time and they look forward to September’s monthly movie outing. We also took a walk over to the local McDonalds for some dollar menu breakfast and boy was it good! The fun didn’t end there, we kept it going with our monthly trip to the Dollar Tree for some bargain shopping, as well as, our trip to Demetri’s Restaurant for some delicious, authentic, Greek cuisine. We would like to thank Holy Apostles and the Ladies of Ahladokampos for their visit. Both groups came with tons of homemade sweets and delicious refreshments for our Residents to enjoy. In September we look forward to our outings to the Dollar Tree, Rivers Casino, Elk Grove Theatres, Demetri’s Restaurant and the Botanical Gardens. Have a wonderful month!! -The Life Enrichment Department

Upcoming Event...

A Note From Memory Care... The Memory Care Unit ended the summer season with a sweet celebration. Our Chocolate Fondue Party was a great success! Residents, families and staff enjoyed dipping various treats and fruit into our dark chocolate and

milk chocolate fountains. Our delicious spread included strawberries, bananas, mangos, kiwis, blueberries, wafers, marshmallows, cookies and pretzels, to name a few! Thank you to everyone who joined us for the party

and we look forward to seeing you again soon!

I would like to remind everyone that the Walk to End Alzheimer’s is on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Montrose Harbor in Chicago. We encourage everyone to join us for a walk along the lake to support the Alzheimer’s

August marked the kick off for our resident safety and competency evaluations. We set up multiple stations in the first floor activity room where each CNA had to demonstrate how to properly transport a resident using various lift equipments, as well as, demonstrating the proper use of oxygen equipment. Over 95% of our CNA staff participate in the competency and we our extremely happy to announce that everyone passed. This is a very interactive experience where each employee must demonstrate proper ways to use our lifts and walking devices when assisting our residents from bed to chair, as well as, proper positioning. All the nurse managers participated in the process and our plan is to do this twice a year to ensure the safety of our residents while they are being assisted with their activities of daily living. We are probably one of very few nursing homes that expect this level of performance and training. It is a mandatory requirement for employment at Greek American Rehab. & Care Centre. If you have the opportunity to speak with our Nurse’s Aids please commend them on a job well done! -The Nursing Department
